I could see the Jets being interested in Nick Perry, weren’t they interested in him before GB resigned him?

I’d bring in Houston though who has still been productive.

He's been tagged. Will need to cough up some picks for him. Not a fan of that move.

With the 49ers trading for a pass rusher, there is a decent chance they don't draft one now and go Q Williams. If that happens Bosa/Allen will fall into the Macc's lap and they better pull the trigger. None of this trade down stuff without a king's ransom.

Plus this class isn't that strong for oline, that will be next year's draft. Draft the pass rusher and you don't need to sign one and can focus on filling the other holes like Corner / center.

It all depends on the offer or picks for the Jets 3rd. I will trust Jets FO if they decide to keep the pick. Note FA acquisition has just started and ways to go.

Just draft Allen or Bosa if he falls to us. we dont need to use our FA money there. spend the money on the O-line and skill players

agree 100%. in fact... trade up for another 1st pick if possible... the cost will be lower with the weakness of this draft. go get jenkins to plug in at center

Excellent post. There are still some decent options out there for the Jets, and they should definitely sign at least one, maybe two of them. The last thing a team should do is to go into the draft having to draft a player at a position of need because they didn't add one in FA. Just waiting until the draft would be very foolish imo.

I think Houston is the guy to sign. He's still pretty effective and could be a great mentor for Brian Burns for a year or two.

My 2nd choice would be Barrett or Lynch.

Golden would be the 2nd edge rusher I'd sign. Coming off an injury from 2017, and not being very effective last year, he should come fairly cheap, but he's still young and has potential.

Ray would be my last choice of that group.

At slot CB, I think both Darqueeze Dennard and Bryce Callahan are still available. I think Callahan is considered slightly better, but is more of a zone-type CB. Dennard has more scheme flexibility. We should definitely sign one of them today! For the #2 CB slot, I'd like to see them sign Ronald Darby or Steven Nelson.

That's why we HAVE to sign at least one, if not two edge rushers now. We cannot be in the position of going into the draft with no flexibility and having to take either Bosa or Allen at #3. If we do that, it would be just our luck that the Giants or Broncos would offer us a great deal to trade down, where we could really improve the team in multiple areas, and Mac would turn it down to take Bosa/Allen.

I say sign Justin Houston to a one or two-year deal. Load it with incentives, but some guaranteed money. Then sign either Aaron Lynch, Shaq Barrett, Markus Golden or Nick Perry as depth. The Jets then are in a position where they don't have to take Bosa/Allen. They could if they wanted to, but if they get a great trade down offer they could accept it. Even if the Jets just sign Houston, they could still possibly trade down and take Brian Burns and get some additional picks. Houston could be a great mentor for whomever the Jets draft at edge rusher.

If the Jets sign Houston and one of Ray or Barrett, there's no way that they need to take Bosa or Allen. That's overkill and a luxury type pick. I can understand still wanting to draft an edge rusher, and think they should, but they could trade down, take Brian Burns, and garner additional picks to further upgrade the talent level of the roster.

"a position to have to take Bosa/Allen"

you make that sound like a bad thing?!?!?! I have waited over a decade to be in a position to draft an elite stud edge pass rusher in the top 3 of the draft. Trading down is ludicrous. you ALWAYS take the top QB/Edge rusher in the top 3 if you are lucky enough to have the chance. maybe you trade down if there is no qb/pass rush prospect any given year.... thats not the case.

This league is dominated by QBs and edge rushers

I totally agree.... We will be this year's Giants/Broncos who should've taken a QB last year, if we don't take an edge rusher.... If either Allen or Bosa is there we have to take them

Or they trade out with the Giants but even then you have QBs potentially going 1st and 2nd.

I know we have discussed this over and over...sign Houston or not and you make a good case to get him now imo

OTOH I say on draft day we all get disappointed>>>>>How much you wanna bet we draft Q williams at 3..the classic DL to the Jets,,,hahahaha

He wont fit a 4-3 Defense but i have heard QBs hate that rush up the middle...could we use this guy???

I can’t see Houston taking a 1 or 2 year deal at his age unless there’s no market there. There probably wouldn’t be any teams wanting a 32 year old pass rusher when his contract is up. I assume he’s only entertaining 3 or 4 year deals.

It would be so Jets like to take Q. Williams with Allen or Bosa sitting there. All I can say is I hope not.

If the Jets were committed to switching full time to a 4-3 D, I'd have a lot less trouble with their even considering taking him. But since they're sticking with the 3-4 base (and that is pretty much confirmed with the signing of Mosley), he isn't really a fit imo, and would be a wasted pick. Allen or Bosa would be much better, but trading down and taking Brian Burns and adding additional picks would be the best way to go imo.

Yes, an interior pass rush can be the most effective because it's right in the QB's face. That said, the interior rush doesn't happen in a 3-4 D. That's not the forte of NTs. Some get more push than others, but what interior pass rush comes from 3-4 Ds is from blitzers, not DL, unless it's a stunt and one of the DEs loops inside.

i doubt they go q williams. the 49ers run a 3-4 and he is not a 5 tech ... plus they drafted 5 techs in the first round in '15, '16, and '17

I don't know who else signed today but if Ziggy Ansah hasn't been signed, I'd make him a priority. Denver took the 2 I liked as second teir guys, Preston and ZaDarius Smith. I think they were the best 2 . I'm fine with Houston on a 2 year deal but I think he is going to look for a ring .

I think Suh at NT might be a nightmare but I don’t know if he wants to play that position.... we could move him around and cause terror maybe a short term contract. Also someone like Danny Shelton can play nose but we need a veteran is McClendon still around?

I feel like Jenkins is improving and did a solid job last year..... I think we should focus on edge rusher in the draft.
