Had the Jets given him something like 5 years and 60 mil ($12 mil per), I'm sure that could have changed his mind.
I can't say I'm surprised about Paradis, though it was probably unreasonable to begin with to expect the Jets to haul in the FA class of the century. Barr hurt, but Paradis hurt more I think. The flipside is that there are still some very good football players out there. I think priority has to be getting Bell inked. After that, we realllllly have to get Callahan. I'm comfortable-ish with Roberts and Johnson on the outside, but we can't expect Nickerson to hold down the slot. Callahan is the best nickel in the game at a very important position.
I honestly don't know but the truth will come out in a few days.......there is no way Mac didn't beat 3 yrs for $27 million - not with all the Jets available cash. I'm really curious what the story is with that...
If it makes anyone feel better, recall how frustrating it was to many that Cousins gave us the run around. We got lucky twice over from that: didn't overpay for at best slightly above average, more likely average QB Ended up with Sam who we certainly would not have drafted if we landed Cousins If a guy doesn't want to play here, or snap up a great offer, we need to have a F them attitude and keep at it -- through the draft, through development, through coaching FA is fool's gold. Look at all the active teams in FA and then look at the standings. There's a correlation. The successful teams use FA selectively and minimally
12 hours ago people wanted to sign him to an extension. I dunno, every move he makes seems to be approved by the sportswriters and the fanbase when he makes them. And he does some good things. But if they dont turn around and have a winning season in 19 he should be jettisoned.
Just look at the Bills.........how many decent signings out of that bunch ? Beasley is 30, Morse is slightly overrated ( and overpaid ). Gore ?? Please...Spencer Long? OK I guess......
I can't imagine Mac not willing to match any offer... the guy knows his job depends on what he does this season. It's obvious Paradis wanted no part of the Jets... for some guys it's about more than $.
Draft a center with one of our two 3rd round picks (preferably the early 3rd rounder) Sign Wisniewski for depth to hold the fort down.
Exactly........plus Wisniewski can step in and play guard kind of a better version of Spencer Long. The Jets will be drafting a center now. Seven years younger and on a rookie contract.....
