Pradis and some corner help and I'm happy. Would like to resign Henry Anderson too. But I don't think we can afford Bell now and fill the rest of our holes. Curious on Mosley's contract breakdown too could be like 20+ mil in the last year and not guaranteed

Woke up to this report. Pricey, but hey, that's free agency. We fill a major need in the middle of the defense. Think David Harris-type leadership + tackling machine tendencies.

there is a good chance that Allen is off the table due to Barr playing OL. He was a great pass rusher in college when playing in the 3/4 defense. Put Q. Williams in the middle of this new look defense and we have a killer defense. I can't believe we just signed 2 perennial pro bowl line backers. If we get Bell I will vote for Mac for President:):):)

Yup. Pace was thought of as a pass rusher waiting to have breakout numbers when we signed him. He turned out to be a great all around olb that could do many things for us, for many years.

I see Barr the same way. He could be an elite edge rusher in the NFL, but there is no guarantee that he will. At least Barr will set the edge on running plays and put up decent sack numbers, but not great. Just like Pace.

We paid a King's ransom, but I think it's worth it. We took a guy who, if he stays healthy, probably has 10 more seasons left in him if not more, and is one of the top linebackers in the game today.

Now, if they can get Allen in the draft, they're going to give Brady PTSD!

    This.

That being said, I can see around 6 seasons.

The Barr signing is at least understandable since he has shown ability in his collegiate career to get to the passer, and has at least had some flashes of that ability in the pros despite not getting many opportunities to do so.

But this....this is one of the worst contracts I have ever seen. 17 mil per year for a run stuffing one dimensional ILB who can’t fucking cover at all? Are we stuck in the fucking stone ages. I’d rather have just kept lee. This is gonna hamstring us and it wasn’t a position of need. Thanks Mac you chipmunk Dunkin fuck

Wow, that is some major cheddar. Buh Bye Darron Lee. We hardly knew you. Maybe they can trade him on draft day. Mosley is an inside linebacker that can rush and pass defend. Greg Williams will have these guys wrecking stuff. This might become a defense that gets people excited. Do they still go Bosa or Allen in the draft? I would trade down and try to either get a tackle and a whole bunch of picks. Don't go down too far.

Jets agree to reported five-year, $85M deal with LB C.J. Mosley

Ralph Vacchiano | Facebook | Twitter | Archive

The first day of NFL free agency was a good one for the Jets. Now the second day has started off even better.

One day after coming to terms with edge-rusher Anthony Barr, slot receiver Jamison Crowder and special teams ace Josh Bellamy, the Jets agreed to terms with former Ravens linebacker C.J. Mosley, an NFL source confirmed. The deal agreed to overnight is for five years and $85 million, according to the NFL Network, with $51 million guaranteed.

The Jets had been after the 6-2, 250-pound inside linebacker from the moment the "legal tampering" period began on Monday, according to a source. They viewed him as a terrific complement to Avery Williamson, one of the prizes of their 2018 free-agent class, and an upgrade over former first-round pick Darron Lee, whose future with the Jets is no longer clear.

Mosley, a former first-round pick (2014), had a strong preference to remain in Baltimore, a source said, and was deciding between the Jets and the Ravens right to the end. The Jets needed to bid significantly higher than the Ravens to land him, the source added, and it appears that's exactly what they did.

And they may not be done spending money, either. The Jets were trying to sign free-agent center Matt Paradis late Monday night and they appeared to be the lone bidder remaining. However, according to a report, Paradis' team re-engaged his old team, the Denver Broncos, in talks late Monday, so the status of that was not immediately clear.

Of course, the big fish in the free-agent pond still remains, too, and the Jets were involved in the Le'Veon Bell chase. Multiple NFL sources told SNY on Monday that the Jets are believed to be the favorites to land the star running back, but several other teams were also involved. Bell is expected to make his decision sometime on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the Jets are still looking for help at cornerback, where they lost Buster Skrine to the Bears, and along the defensive line as they continue to remake their defense for new defensive coordinator Gregg Williams. Their linebacking corps of Barr, Williamson, Mosley and Jordan Jenkins, though, now looks stronger than it's been in years. It's unclear if Williams has plans for Lee, the Jets' first-round pick in 2016, though it now seems obvious the Jets won't pick up the fifth-year option on his contract when they have to make that decision in May.

Why do we have a second thread on this now?

If you know it will be merged with the other one, why start one?

Lee doesn’t hurt us. Like it or not he adds depth and a solid one. Agree that we should keep him.

I don’t have much faith in Trumaine and hopes he proves me wrong. We need him big time.

Tannehill would be an ok backup providing he is cheap

I'm a fan of Mosley the player, but definitely not the contract. He's a two down LB.

I love the Barr contract and player, definitely agreed there.

Some folks like to say "Official" even though it's not yet truly official until tomorrow.

He is not a 2 down LBer. He was the mike LB for the #1 defense last year.

You don't think that Bradbury or Jenkins could start in their rookie season and play well? They may not, but I think they have the potential to be able to. I totally agree with you however, that I want Paradis, or at least a solid starting C in place before the draft. I don't want to go into the draft with Harrison as our starter and having to draft a C.

If that's true, and he's waffling, then he must not want to play for the Jets since he's all about the money.
