Barr is a good football player. He would be a welcome addition

Barr's best position is 3-4 OLB with versatility imo, so I think he'd be a good fit especially with Gregg Williams who will play him all around.

Very solid player, however I don't see him as a big time game changer, and he's about to get big time game changer money.
    That's my only hesitation.

Guess FA is all about the overspend, but I'd rather get after Trent Brown, Paradis, Saffold, and Leveon Bell, and draft Josh Allen at the #3.

Agreed. He's not great at any one thing, but he's good at everything. But:

That worries me. I don't think he's in line to get game changer money but the reports make it sound like we're ready to give him that kind of money to get him here.

Correct me if I’m wrong but Barr has never played OLB in the 3-4 right? So how can we say he’s not a game changer at the position if he hasn’t played it yet?

I’d love to have him on team, as I think his versatility would pair great with Williams.
Totally agree about the overspend caution tho. Of course we’d have to overspend, just hopefully not grossly overspend.

That's just as much of a reason to not pay him gamechanger money.

Hopefully they will take a stab at CJ Mosley who is actually worth a high salary before they do at Barr, who I expect to be about the same pay or at a very slight discount.

No, I think that is just 90% of The Gang Green. I'd say there is a great chance Amendola signs with the Jets or Patriots.

Here's a blurb on PFF about Barr worth noting. Seems like he's a very good pass-rusher when given the chance:

    https://www.profootballfocus.com/news/pro-top-10-free-agent-linebackers-in-2019
Aside from a horrendous showing in coverage against the Los Angeles Rams where he allowed three touchdowns in coverage, Barr proved he can make an impact from anywhere on the field in 2018. He led all linebackers with a 13.8 pass-rushing productivity percentage, accumulating 23 pressures on just 94 pass-rush snaps. Whoever Barr lands with will also be getting someone who can cover the middle of the field relatively well. Those three touchdowns he allowed against the Rams were the only ones he surrendered all year, and he had a career-best 73.3 catch rate allowed (20th) in coverage.

Would signing Barr mean dumping Lee?

He has been playing in a 4-3 where he rarely rushed the passer, but when he did, he was very effective. His last two years at UCLA he had 23.5 sacks. I really wanted the Jets to draft him then. He is a very solid LB good vs the run and in coverage, and has pretty good speed. He could be a very good add at OLB in the 3-4, but we don't know if the Jets plan to stick with the 3-4 base after this season. They may be only sticking with it this season for practical matters so they can focus on the offense. If they sign Barr in FA and draft Quinnen Williams, then I think it's a pretty good sign that they may transition to the 4-3 next season.

The thing is that he was a great pass rusher in college. I had forgotten that he had 23.5 sacks his last two seasons at UCLA and I wanted the Jets to draft him.

I also just saw the following tidbit in a ganggreennation.com article:

I think the Vikings did him an injustice drafting him to play in a 4-3. I think he will be much better as a 3-4 OLB, and probably better than Flowers.

  18. Loved Barr coming out & have little doubt he can bend the edge & get to the QB.Hed be a great signing

If the jets signed him were unable to trade down & drafted Allen..they along w Lee could all drop in coverage very well & all are good blitzers too. That moght be quite a strongpoint for Williams to work around. Same might apply for Devin white in place of Allen.

Yes, that would be great. I meant to respond to your post about White earlier. While I'm hoping for a trade down and a number of extra draft picks or Allen at #3. I'd rather the Jets take White than Quinnen Williams. I could understand taking White as he could fit for us in any D. As long as we signed Paradis or Morse and a good LG in FA, and drafted a good RB and WR in the 3rd round, I wouldn't be unhappy with taking White at #3. If we are unable to sign a good C or LG in FA, however, I would be pretty upset with taking any defensive player in the 1st round, as we would then definitely need to trade down and either take Garrett Bradbury or Elgton Jenkins in the 2nd round to start at C and then draft an OG in the 3rd round.

The Jets should at least talk to him to ascertain his interest. He was good with the Packers, but I don't know whether his skill has deteriorated badly or not. If he is still good, I think the Jets could sign him now ahead of FA and that would be one less position to worry about in FA.
