So then you definitely have examples. Let’s hear them.

    I say target Coleman #1
    1) 25 yrs old
    2) excellent receiver
    3) better value
    4) great burst of speed

Would you say he is similar to Jerrik McKinnon the RB Mac tried to sign last year? SF signed him and then he blew out his knee. But I remember reading how disappointed Mac was that he didn’t get him..

Coleman isn’t bad but he’s in the same league as Bell

Bell is a workhorse do it all guy who is great at everything, while Coleman is better suited as a change of pace/ 3rd down rb. I actually think Bilal Powell is a decent comparison

If we’re not going for Bell I’d rather just draft an RB

Coleman is better than Powell. To quote Keyshawn “come on man”..

    And I like Powell!!

He didn’t do all that well this past season as the lead guy with Devonta Freeman out. I’m just saying in the mold of Powell as a comparison for some Jets fans that haven’t seen him much (Not a bellcow but is decent at everything, especially solid in the passing game)....he’s better than Powell though agreed

I think we all will be very happy next week...some of you might not believe it but Bell will come down in price. Even teams with favorable tax situations like Houston are not spending 19 Mil for him

The FA Auction is in 6 days..hold on to your seat and get placard ready ahah

If we sign Coleman we still should draft a rb.

Nearly 1,100 rushing/receiving yards last season with 199 touches. 4.8 yards per carry. If he had been given the ball more, (which he can handle btw) he would have been one of the top RBs in the NFL last season. The last 3 seasons he has had 11 total TDs, 8 total TDs, and 9 total TDs.

I realize that TDs can be sometimes misleading, but he is consistently finding the end zone. He hasn't really had injuries and he doesn't have a lot of mileage.

    CJ Anderson
    Damien Williams
    Kenyan Drake
    Latavius Murray
Phillip Lindsay as a UDFA coming out of nowhere and setting records
    TJ Yeldon
Conner (not sure why you wrote that off it's a prime example)
Giovanni Bernard last year covering for Mixon while he was out.
Tevin Coleman with Freeman out, which is always

    Want more?

My point is production from the RB position is sustained consistently by the backups when the stud runner goes down or is gone. A 27 year old bell who will start to decline in a couple of years, while I love him temporarily, doesn't necessarily justify the cap committment. If we signed him would I be mad? No. But I also would not be mad if we didn't for this reason.

Yeah I don’t look at Coleman and Powell as comparable type running backs.

I like Powell and he’s grown on me since his first couple of years but I still look at him as a straight downhill runner. I just can’t shake that perception.

Coleman I just see as a more versatile back and that’s probably ingrained in me since Indiana.

For the price tag and the mileage I think I’d take Coleman over Bell and still draft a RB.

A lot of zone rushes in that highlight vid. He would be a nice fit in Gase's offense

CJ Anderson is not a good example. He had two good games then two bad games, one of which was in the Super Bowl where Todd Gurley... the guy he supposedly supplanted as the stud RB for one of the best teams in football... only had 4 carries. In the NFC champ game he had 16 carries for 44 yards, in the Super Bowl he had 7 carries for 22 yards. He had a really fun first game, but so did Gurley. The bottom line is, Anderson was exposed as the journeyman turd that he is and in no way, shape or form did he consistently sustain the production Gurley provided.

Kenyan Drake? He's the definition of pedestrian. When did he ever take over for a vet and provide a boost? Guy broke double-digit carries only four times this entire season. The irony is he would have absolutely been a better option than Gore but the Dolphins dopey head coach thought otherwise. Oh wait... shit....

Latavius Murray? He started 5 games and broke 70 yards ONCE. Averaged a whopping 2 catches per game.

TJ Yeldon started 5 games... his highest rushing total? 58 yards. At least he caught passes though.

Gio Bernard started 4 games, rushed for a whopping 172 yards.

Lindsay is a special case, he was a UDFA plucked out of nowhere. You can't pretend that's a regular occurrence and you also can't pretend that he's not going to pull a Peyton Hillis. Damien Williams, Conner an Coleman are all good examples (my beef with Conner was pretending that he was better than Bell, he's not) but that's THREE legitimate examples, and none of them other than Coleman have proven they can do it for more than one year, and in Williams' case, more than a few games.

The overarching point here, as it has been the entire time we've discussed Bell, is what he does for everyone else. None of these guys did a damn thing for anyone else on the team, mostly because they played for bad teams. Anderson "took over" and Goff turned into Josh Allen. It's almost as if young, developing QBs benefit from an absolute stud in the backfield that changes the way a defense has to look at every single play.

Strange and surprising that you are telling me every example is not good. For the ones you're claiming the rushing totals are bad. How about adding the receiving totals, and touchdowns? Or would that blow your point into obsolescence.

My point is that these elite backs are relieved or replaced by low cost talent, with similar production. The above examples are ALL examples of this happening. If you disagree, then we are not having the same conversation. Or you're fitting the conversation to fit your point. This is a widely observed fact, and I am amused that you are even debating it, just to convince yourself of something you want.

I'm not even talking about Anderson anymore because you're really the only one arguing that he came in and the Rams didn't miss a beat.

Who did Kenyan Drake replace? That was just a really bad example. He's a good young back that produced about as average of a result as you could imagine. It's not like the Dolphins were some high-powered rushing attack that suffered a catastrophic injury and Drake came in for the save. He was part 2 of a RBBC offense. I don't see the point you were trying to make here.

Of the Vikings top 8 rushing performances, 2 of them came with Murray as the lead back. Their rushing numbers dipped when he started, so he's not exactly helping your point either.

The Jags were actually a better running team than the Vikes... and ONE game of their top 10 rushing performances came Yeldon as the starter. In fact he only carried the ball 8 times for 16 yards that day, a whopping 2 YPC. Also I mentioned that he at least is a pass catcher, but he certainly was NOT an ample overall replacement for Fournette.

All three of Gio's starts are in the bottom 5 of the Bengals lowest rushing totals of the year, and they were the best running team of the bunch. Again he catches the ball, but labeling him an ample replacement for Mixon is just flat out wrong. The numbers support that. He is a receiving back, that's all.

You get it by this point. The bottom line is outside of Conner and Coleman, you can't find me an RB that stepped in and filled the production void left by the starter.

If you dismiss cja saving their season you’re blind.

You keep omitting the receiving totals for Gio and Yeldon

Murray was the only good rb they had

Youre just wrong and I’m sorry for that

    Saving their season?! Holy christ...

I mentioned TWICE in TWO posts that Yeldon/Gio were good receivers.

If Murray was the only good RB they had then why did you claim he stepped in for the vet and saved the day?

    Are you having a stroke?

Would go heavily after Bell and Matt Paradis as my top 2 priorities.

Bell is going to be a feature back that can simply transform an offense, while Paradis would be a plug and play center that will instantly provide stability/experience on the o-line and for Darnold.

We can make the numbers work if we convince him to change his first name to Taco
