There have been too many years to count where I was not excited heading into a football season but I have NEVER felt this disinterested about football going into Free Agency and the draft. People can wish for Bell all they want and I am pretty sure that the Jets are not only very interested in him but I think they have a real good shot of actually signing him. My problem with this is --> that although I understand the argument about Sam needing weapons and Bell is very talented #1 IMO , Bell will NO WAY be worth the money that the Jets will pay him # 2 Even if you sign a RB such as Bell what good is he or ANY weapon on Offense to Sam when our GM / Mr Mac has zero clue how to build an offensive line and his philosophy of how to assemble one is flat out BAD ? I think Bell is all about the money and he is not a guy I personally want. I hope he chooses the Ravens.PS to all you guys who want Coleman , I ask again why ? Feel free to look back on this post and ask me to eat crow as I would love nothing more to be wrong about this post,,,,,,,,,,but sadly I don't believe I will be.

He said he doesn't care about the money, he just wants respect.

Yet it was just a year ago when Bell tweeted that $60m wasn't enough to play for the Jets.

And he held out last year to get more money. What does that say about how he feels about the game? Let's ask Leveon:

So Ford isn't an option, Clowney isn't an option... if Lawrence isn't an option then who are the anti-Bell folk saving all that money for?

So is Bell. You can't compare him to every other RB in the league because no other RB in the league consistently runs for 1k and catches 80 balls a season.

You can sign Bell and those three pretty easily.

Actually he doesn't say he doesn't care about the money.

He says he can care less about the money so that means he cares about the money.

    At least a little.

I want more than 3? They need to try to at least.

Hopeful they can come away with Callahan, Coleman, Paradis, Saffold, and maybe Ansah or Fowler

Of course you do, as do I. But we need to be realistic. We aren't grabbing every top guy on the market.

Except James Conner, who played only 12 games, but when you project those 12 games over a 16 game season you get 1300 yards rushing , 4.5 ypc, 16 TDs, 73 receptions, 660 yards receiving and 1 TD That is better than Bell's 2017 season - 1300 yards rushing, 4.0 ypc , 9 TDS, 85 receptions, 655 yards receiving and 2 TDs.

Conner had a higher YPC, almost twice as many TDS, and virtually the same receiving stats. Why in the world would any sane GM pay Bell $12+ million a season????????

As far as the TD numbers go:

And for all the numbers you tossed out, Bell still is one of the best ALL-TIME in terms of yards from scrimmage. ALL-TIME. Not one season.

And if we are going to adjust everything to 16 games, you should do the same with Bell... and here's what his numbers adjusted to 16 games look like:

    2017 - 1377 yards rushing, 4.2 YPC, 10 TDs, 91 receptions, 700 yards receiving, 3 TD.

And tack on those two tweets about why the Conner TD numbers might be misleading and....

We need talent. Theres no proven skill positions that have the chance to really elevate this team.

    We have to spend.

Lets go get some blue chip talent

Steelers Bell is better than Conner and given our cap situation and needs is worth the money. But will we get Steelers Bell or an out of shape Bell who stops giving a fuck once he gets paid?

Bell played 15 games in 2017, so you are right about his 2017 numbers ------to some extent. You cooked the books. Yes he goes from 1377 to from 1291 yards, but his ypc is still 4.0 - not 4.2. He goes from 9 to 9.5 TDs. Yes he catches 6 more passes, but one game doesn't move him from 2 receiving TDs to 3.

The bottom line is that Conner's numbers were just as good. Bell is a product of playing in one of the best offenses in the NFL in recent seasons behind one of the best OLs. He won't have that next year on the Jets. I don't care how much money the Jets have. It is just plain stupid to massively overpay for a RB. RBs are not worth it. Their careers are short, they are injury prone, and they are dependent on the offensive system. Case in point is David Johnson. Did he become an average running back this season? Doubtful. But he played behind a bad OL on a bad offense and became an ordinary back. Bell will be ordinary on the Jets unless and until the OL is upgraded and their are more weapons. With Bell as the focal point of the offense, teams will stack the box and his ypc will drop below 4, he will get fewer red zone opportunities, and fewer receptions. Would you pay $15 million for 250 carries, 950 yards, 6 rushing TDs, 50 receptions for 400 yards and 1-2 receiving TDs???? That's what he'll do on the Jets next year without significant OL additions and upgrades and some top WRs to throw to (like Brown and JJSS). Bell is fool's gold.

Would I pay to have someone worth stacking the box against so sam can see more man matchups on the outside and Herndon up the seam?
    Yes, all day long.
