Unfortunately I believe you are right. Gotta have some push back against teams like that. Toronto doesn't appear to have anyone capable of doing that. 13
To quote a wise man this was a perfect example of why you do break up a team regardless of so called chemistry because we cannot score goals and our power play is a liability,,,throw last night out the window as it was a unicorn = this team struggles to score ( unless of course you mean putting the puck in our own net ) just a shame it was not addressed at the effing deadline !!!!
Good game, fellas! The Islanders were clearly out of gas from last night's game. That is tough scheduling to play the Leafs then Caps back-to-back, even at home. I still don't understand how that first goal wasn't off sides and wasn't allowed to be challenged, but that's life. I'm proud of the Capitals for continuing to plug away because the Isles did not make it easy for them. The next time we play is the last game of the season. Could it be for the Metropolitan Division title? Time will tell.
good win for your guys TDK ,,,,,our guys don't give up a lot of goals but we just do not score goals .
The Islanders have definitely bought into Trotz' system. I agree, they need another goal scorer, but their future is bright. Part of not scoring goals is Barry's system. My frustration with Trotz for many years is he would not be aggressive enough and sit on 1 goal leads until they were lost like tonight's game. He went away from that last year though and it helped the Caps win the Cup. I think he has learned from past mistakes, but that strategy makes sense against a high-powered offensive team like the Capitals tonight.
4 love we are down----I will say this until the end of the season-----> you still think we needed to stand pat at the deadline ? OMG the team chemistry ? Keep it the same ? don't disturb it ? IMO -They were just happy to be where we are thats why they made zero moves. The team clearly needed help and the Maple leaf game was a unicorn as we struggle to and don't score goals that Leaf game was the unicorn
What player other than Barzal and Anders Lee do you think other teams wanted? I can guarantee that no one wanted Brock, Bailey, Eberle, Beauvillier, Thomas Hickey, Cizikas, Kamarov, Filpula, or Clutterbuck. It takes two teams to make things happen and Islanders thanks to Garth Snow have acquired nothing but 3rd line players and signed them to bad contracts. We as fans already knew they struggled to score, now Lou and Trotz are seeing it for themselves, and I’m sure there will be roster turnover next year. Islanders did not have the chips to get any of the good scorers this season.
Menace I do not know who other teams wanted I really don't,,,,but I just know that this team needed help on offense and it needed to address the power play,,,they didn't and this is the result. They have struggled to score goals all year today is no different. I don't know if any team wanted Lee ,Nelson or Eberle at the deadline but I would have done all I could to trade all 3 rather than watch what I am watching today and deal with 1 or all 3 of them leaving in July. Lou and Trots have a plan I don't doubt it and IMO as I stated after the deadline they are sticking to it and again IMO they were literally just happy to be where we are right now.
Simply put ... yes. I'm not moving a ton of young talent to improve this roster. Its a good team, not a great one. We are not one rental scoring forward away and have good D depth. I'm Also not moving Eberly, Nelson, Lee or any other expiring contracts for picks. Lee needs to be resigned and it will be a big loss if he's not. The other two were not bringing back much in trade and may not be around next year. These guys are more or less our rentals this season while we wait for the off season free agency to try and acquire more talent or, if all else is lost, resign one of them. There is no reason to divert a good long term plan this year. We have over achieved and its been fun, but this is far from a finished product that could not have all its short comings fixed at the deadline without destroying our future.
Harpua or anyone else---> I do not think we had to make drastic moves or mortgaged the future to improve, we can debate whether or not Stone or anyone else would NOT have signed had they traded for those guys but we probably will never know. I will say it again if we had a chance to SIGN Stone I would have traded Dobson , but thats me my reasoning is 2 fold first it just would have improved the team right now and If they had been able to get ANY talent at the deadline and improved then IMO that makes the Islanders a more attractive team to sign with in July.I mean any improvements would have been a good thing, I am still shocked that Kovy ( you want to say money was the issue ? ok I give you that ) or no one else was added , even Johannson would look damn good next to Barzal right now and he did not cost a lot , again this is my opinion. They made zero moves = so now all we can do is play results and the proof will be in July when we see who if anyone finds the Islanders attractive and signs here. IF you guys want to argue that no one wanted Eberle or Nelson or any other player again we will not know if reports were BS or not but I had read multiple teams contacted the Islanders about Nelson but who knows right ? Lee on the other hand and I don't care what anyone tells me was absolutely tradeable and I would have done it without thinking twice, again lets see if he is here in July as I saw this movie before and it was a bad ending. I do know this ,I hope and pray that they make the playoffs because if they do and how they perform can at least be a selling point in July but its no lie when you say " they might not even make the playoffs " they have looked real bad since the deadline.
Here is some good news despite the team struggling. https://www.newsday.com/amp/sports/...slanders-1.28028722?__twitter_impression=true
