Sorry to get back to you so late, life again. I would say they will not spend any big money on him, so he will be gone.
Manish Mehta says the Jets are interested in Dante Moncrief, which I think would be a good signing in a bad WR free agent market. He did well with Andrew Luck so he is used to a QB who thrives throwing off platform. Here is the story: https://www.nydailynews.com/sports/football/jets/ny-sports-jets-donte-moncrief-20190226-story.html
No thanks. If we sign a legit WR then Moncrief is just taking up a roster space (forcing out a guy like Burnett who I believe is going to be a player) and if we don't sign a legit WR then Moncrief is going to be relied on WAY more than he should.
Legit professional receiver that is still young. Smooth route runner than can get behind a defense. Hes a similar level player to Enunwa & RA but w a different skill set that seems to fit. Not keeping opposing coaches up at night though..Team still needs a playmaker
Some Moncrief gems for you: -80th in receiving first downs since 2016 -5 TOTAL games of 100+ receiving -Prior to the 100 yard game against the Jets this year, he went 30 straight games under 70 yards receiving (YIKES) If he's our big WR acquisition then we had a BAD offseason.
He isn't all that bad as a 4th or 5th option. As things stand right now...Enunwa, Anderson, and Herndon are the top targets. If they sign a RB of any value (Bell/Coleman), he will also be a top target. That would leave Moncrief as the 5th option. That ain't so bad.
Then it goes back to what I was saying before... I would much rather have a guy like Burnett on the roster over Moncrief, isn't really good at any one particular thing. Burnett was a playmaker in college, has the chemistry with Sam and flashed some signs of serious talent in the short time we saw him last season.
I know this script. We'll go dumpster diving with Moncrief & pass on landing Crowder or Tyrell Williams. Like others have said, Burnett > adding Moncrief.
Why can't Burnett stick with Moncrief on the roster? Enunwa Anderson Kearse (Decent chance he gets cut at some point) Moncrief Burnett The Jets are going to carry a bunch of WRs to camp. There isn't any reason they can't sign Moncrief and keep developmental players like Burnett. I guess my view on this is, this isn't an all or nothing situation. Just because they sign someone like Moncrief does not mean they will cut Burnett.
I’m still pissed we didn’t see more of Burnett. Down the stretch when the season was lost? Should have played every game and gotten a lot of targets.
Well you hope that we do more to the WR corps than just add Moncrief. Like I said earlier, if that's our big get at WR, we had a bad offseason. I'm going to assume we end up with a better player than Moncrief, which I know is probably dumb of me to do, but someone has to take the money. At that point I'd rather not spend the $5-7 mil on a guy like Moncrief who isn't all that good. And yes I'm assuming Kearse is a goner. Hopefully at least. I loved the guy up until this year when he completely mailed it in. No idea. Well I do know why, because Bates was an absolute idiot, but he should have been seeing a ton of snaps especially considering he seemed to be making the most of the few he WAS getting.
Peake is likely locked into roster spot bc hes a very good special teamer. Im sorry..you dont psss on a young legitimate receiver when you need guys who can get open bc of a UDFA who looked decent in acouple games. If Burnett is so good he’ll win a competition against whomever the Jets bring in & force himself onto roster
I guess the issue here is whether or not you consider Moncrief a young legitimate receiver. Young... sure... legitimate? Not so sure. He's the definition of a JAG outside of that second year with Luck.
I think hes decent. He isnt flashy & there are guys in the draft i like better but ill take him over 2018 Kearse,Stewart,Hansen or Peake(as a WR at least).
Well yea of course, those guys were terrible. Peake will be around as an STer, he's too good to let go. In a perfect world: Humphries, Williams, Tate or Crowder Quincy Robbie Draft pick Burnett Peake
