agree.....Coleman as a fallback plan for Bell is like eating Spam as a fallback plan for a bone-in ribeye
Coleman as a fallback plan because Bell chose another offer over ours, I can deal with it because we had no control over that (unless we made a bad offer in which case, fire Macc). But I can't deal with ignoring Bell because Coleman will come cheaper. Well, there's a reason he'll come cheaper...
You and I have had a very good back and forth on here and I am not reiterating because I want to prove a point, but merely to re-highlight my view. LeVeon's cost isn't my main concern. It is a factor, but my greater concern with him is the amount of touches he has in his career. NOT the amount he gets paid. You have made your argument very clear and I respect it
Totally get it, not an invalid argument by any stretch, I just don't see it as anywhere near as much of a pitfall and wouldn't want it to hold the Jets back from chasing a generational talent. And just to reiterate the point made in that post you quoted, I'm absolutely fine with signing Coleman. I think he's a very good player that can be a good 1A to a good 1B... I just don't want to make him the PRIORITY over Bell.
I normally would not be onboard with Bell, but considering our situation I definitely want to sign him. He'd be someone that defenses have to focus on, which takes some heat off of Darnold. I also like his versatility, catching passes out of backfield and even lining up at WR. That's the type of playmaker/weapon this offense needs to spark it. Down to the money, just be careful with the guarantees. RB position too quickly can be derailed by injuries, and have their effectiveness decline rapidly. Make him highest paid RB, but not much past Gurley, and guarantees that can be off the books after 2-3 years.
Too funny! A fatty Ribeye Our history with Steeler cast offs--S Holmes / P Burris is not at all rosy Bell is a Superstar however, and Coleman sloppy seconds ...but a good RB too TBH i am never sure about our GMs creative contract abilities nor his ability to inspect what hes buying esp after landing T Johnson for the Brinks Truck If the guy is out of shape then his asking price should be adjusted and the rest of the GMs should bring Bell back to reality
After the report today that he's 260 I'm really scared to give him any money. Fear he'll get paid and check out. If we want a bowling ball like that we should sign CJ Anderson. A lot cheaper.
This guy is gonna fail a drug test at some point. Is he on the hook for 8 games or a full year if that happens? Or is it 4? Can't remember what he got last time if anything.
No but @TonyFtLaud has a point. Not a good look when the offense is more productive when the guy doesn't play. Actually it's a better comparison than 2018 because there were other differences between 2018 and previous years (for example locker room issues) that compounded the loss of Bell.
I voted no, but not because he's too expensive. The Jets need to try to establish their own culture, something that this organization has lacked since Parcells. With guys like Adams and Darnold they have the opportunity to do that going forward. Bringing in an established superstar like Bell will undercut the young leadership, similar to what happened when they brought Santonio Holmes and Marshall here. I'm not saying don't sign FA's, but stay away from high profile players like Bell and Antonio Brown until the Jets establish themselves as a winning team. Then they can sign all the superstars they want.
Which do you think his new team should expect? A combination of the two? There's absolutely no denying Bells ability on the field. The issue I have is the milage, he's had an unbelievable amount of carries, and his history of missed time due to injury, hold outs and suspensions.
Not concerned about the mileage or the holdout. The only thing that concerns me is the weed but the talent is just to undeniable to not try to go get it. And what concerns me more than the weed is going into yet another season with a bunch of C at best B- offensive players that no d coordinator gives a fuck about. I’m concerned we put a lesser rb back there that misses blitz pick ups and gets sam blown up, At some point this team is going to pull up its big boy pants and take a chance. Players like this don’t hit free agency often , now would be a good time to take a chance
