wrong thread? I'm guessing you meant to post in this one: http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?t=15559
Is Damon robotized since coming to the Yanks? Tough call. He definitley lost some of his cred leaving Boston but hasn't shown too many other signs of robotazation. :breakdance: A-Rod is definitley the ultimate robot, but he was before even getting there.
ESPN reporting that a deal b/w Red Sox and Matzuzaka is likely NOT to happen - does anyone really believe they will not sign this kid?
I would not have believed it at first, but its really starting to look like theres not gonna be a deal.....Id love to know what the 2 sides are asking for to see if the Sox are legitimately trying to sign this guy or what......maybe they thought Manny would be gone by now but now maybe they realize they have too pay manny and arent as excited to sign the pitcher? who knows...deadlines thursday yes?
deadline is midnight thursday, but the report also said that they would probably have to get it done by tuesday in order to get a physical in on wednesday but if they strike a deal in the eleventh hour, i really can't see a physical being a deal breaker with 51 mil on the line
Or maybe the Sox are showing that they never had any intentions of signing Matsuzaka in the first place, and were simply trying to make the Yankees didn't get their hands on him. Pretty funny how the negotiations took a huge downturn after it became public that the Mets outbid the Yanks isn't it? Will there be some sort of penalty for the Sox if they fail to sign him? I mean, if they legitimately tried to sign him to a fair enough deal, then I wouldn't be in favor of a penalty, but if they were obviously just trying to screw the Yankees, there should be some sort of repurcussions. People may complain about the way the Yankees do business, but at least they do it brazenly out in the public eye. As far as Zito, I think I might be the only Yankee fan here still hoping for us to sign him. I know and understand why guys don't want him, but I look at him against every team that he would pitch against besides Boston, and I see too much potential for wins to pass up. As for him being the #1 coming in, and instantly giving us a better shot in the postseason, I strongly disagree. He would definitely be no higher than #2, since Wang is far better from day 1. I don't know who 10P10 considers #2, but I might rank Zito #2 if the rotation consists of Wang, Zito, Moose, Pettite, RJ. I could understand ranking Moose ahead of him right now, but he is at the end of his career. If Clemens comes back, then Zito gets pushed down to at least #3. Yes, Rocket would be better in the short term than Zito. In terms of the postseason, he doesn't help us at all. Our problem hasn't been pitching. It's the dead cold bats of anyone not named Jeter. Unless we can hit the ball in October, it doesn't matter if we have Tom Seaver in his prime on the mound.
If we were to sign Zito & Igawa (sp?), then look at how our rotation would stack up (random order) Chien-Ming Wang Andy Pettitte (L) Randy Johnson (L) Kei Igawa (L) Barry Zito (L) Mike Mussina 4 lefties out of 6 starting pitchers...
That's the worst part of the process - if Sox don't sign him, they get their 51 mil back with no penalty. Legally, MLB may be able to bring a claim for breach of good faith and fair dealing, but those chances are highly unlikely.
Obviously his glove is still one of the best in the game and would minimize E-Rod's errors but bringing him means that Giambi would be the DH the majority of the season which puts Matsui in LF and Melky on the bench. I just dont like that.
Mussina would be the 2nd best pitcher on the staff, he's better than Zito. Of course, Torre prefers to go R-L-R-L-R, so Zito would "technically" be the #2 starter. But in terms of ranking them from best to worst, Zito would be 3rd. Giambi's going to DH regardless, because of his physical condition, and Melky will be the 4th OFer. It's going to happen anyway, whether they sign Mientkiewicz or not.
I'm surprised the Yankees haven't talked at all about possibly moving Matsui to 1B. He's a poor OFer, and I don't know how well he would make the transition, but it's certainly worth a try. Unless of course we can somehow unload Pavano and a prospect for Sexson and put him at 1B.
We don't need Zito guys. We weren't after him anyways. Our rotation is solid they way it is currently with Wang, Johnson, Mussina, Pettitte, Igawa and possibly Clemens who will take Igawa's spot. If we didn't sign Pettitte, that fifth spot probably would have gone to either Sanchez or Hughes during ST.
Yeah, I wanted that to happen as well 10Pennington10. It would've helped us a lot. All of us know that Melky has a way better arm than Matsui. However, we should stop with that OF to IF experiment because it doesn't work that well anyway. We have to get a real 1B now and most probably Mientkiewicz is who were are going after. Teixeira is a FA next year so don't be surprised if we go after him.
I'm sure Teixeria will be the main target next off-season. I really hope Texas doesn't give him a contract extension, he would be the optimal long term solution at 1B. Great bat AND great glove. And remember, if Mattingly becomes the manager after this season, that will certainly entice Teixeria. He has said his favorite player of all-time is Don Mattingly.
Didnt we have a prospect in AAA who was supposed to be our future at 1b, I know he struggled last year but is he considered done with us. His name slips my mind.
