I saw he was the assistant and then the OL coach for Dallas between 2013-2017. They were obviously a great unit though they had enough talent to be successful. Hopefully he can make this unit more successful than it has been.
Definitely need to get him so maulers up front. Looks like we’re going with a more physical style of zone blocking. Makes sense since we play in the northeast.
Seems to be a good hire (if it goes through). In addition to the Cowboys work, the Bengals rushing attack was much better in 2018 than in 2017 - almost 1 yard per carry better (although I don't know who they may have added). It will be interesting to see if this Frank Pollack hiring is "a done deal" before we have an official Offensive Coordinator.
Thought he was going to Green Bay? [Man, I am getting giddy over this one.] P.S. Folks in Cincy say he was instrumental in getting more out of their piss-poor OL than any could expect. Joe Mixon was pretty livid over Pollack's departure if anything.
I don't know if this hire is official yet. [Hoping it is.] In the meantime, take a gander at what he preaches. You will like what you see. https://www.cincyjungle.com/2018/8/3/17642736/frank-pollack-culture-change-is-showing And I'd say the hype was well-justified, based on the improvement [3.9 YD/Carry -> 4.7 YD/Carry, 40 -> 37 Sacks] His stint at Oakland, which shows he knows how to protect QB, is also a major bonus. If he can improve the yd/carry just as much, (at ~4.7 Yd/Carry) their rushing attack jumps up to within top 10, without even increasing the att/G department, at ~120 yds/G.
Do we know what kind of blocking scheme Gase likes to run? Bates switched us over to zone and I don’t think it had any benefit on our production. If anything our run blocking got worse.
I know this isn't OC, but HAS JEREMY BATES BEEN OFFICIALLY KICKED IN HIS ASS YET? I need to hear it on this shitty Monday after vomiting my guts out of my mouth yesterday. EDIT: Sorry for the mistypes, haha. I am the Queen of Typos. I fixed it, which I often don't for comedic purposes, but it read like I walked a cat to the dog pound and the dog got et.
Gase also runs a zone blocking scheme but Miami averaged 4.8 ypc as opposed to the Jets 4.0 ypc. http://www.espn.com/nfl/statistics/team/_/stat/rushing/seasontype/2
All these coaches seem like a "buy into my system or get out" type of coaches. Hopefully the players drink the Kool aid
Gotta say I've really liked the Williams, Boyer and Pollack hires. Gase will have to find a way to get all these parts cohesive, get the players to buy in, and accelerate Darnolds growth.
Have to wonder if they’re all bought in because they think Darnold will be a star. I know there are other reasons for accepting a job, but these guys love winning and having a QB who they think can win games can’t hurt In the recruiting process.
Bates was finesse zone. Gase pounded it between the tackles a lot with Miami. They were always physical, lots of inside traps. I'm sure a lot of it will have to do with personnel though
