Caps with a very nice tribute to Trotz, with a great standing ovation reaction from the fans. As he hoped would be the case, Lane Lambert and Mitch Korn also mentioned.
Look who's in first place! Also tied with Toronto for second in the conference (who plays for them again?)
I’ve been keeping track of that as well; thought we’d catch them last night with them playing the Lightning. Not an exciting game but an exciting result. Such a smart game by Trotz.
Congrats on the win guys! Fitting for Trotz and the Isles to take over 1st place in Washington. I almost went to the game. Thank God I chose otherwise. Going Tuesday to the Sharks game, but that might not be good either. The Caps have been brutally bad the last couple weeks. Lost 4 in a row and 7 of 10. Just a mid-season funk I think, but it sucks. Hopefully this Isles game will wake them up. Trotz coached a great game today, but it is embarrassing that Reirden did not counter or adjust at all. Just a pathetic performance. Fans of good teams don't realize how spoiled they are until they start playing unwatchable hockey like the Caps have the past couple weeks. I always have appreciated this era, but I mean fans in general. The Islanders fans are the opposite. They have had a rough few years and can truly enjoy this current streak they are on. One more thing: I DON'T want to play the Isles Round 1.
Let this sink in. Canada's media darling team pajama boy lost to the Isles 4-0. Best team in the league the Tampa Bay Lighting lost to the Isles 5-1. The defending Stanley Cup champs lost to the Isles 2-0. Toronto,Tampa, Washington 3 top contenders outscored 11-1 by our first place New York Islanders.
It will take a lot for me to get that Stanley Cup feeling back after so many years, but it's sure been fun watching this team for the last five weeks. The game I went to on 12/15 at the Coliseum against Detroit was the game that started this streak, so you're all welcome. Or maybe it was the Billy Joel bobble heads they gave out that night?
Even if this isn't the year, the future is so bright. The team has bought in to Trotz's style which is not easy to do. They could add some pieces at the deadline and in free agency after the season. The Isles will be tough to beat for a long time. Obviously I want the Caps to repeat, but if they don't, I would love the Isles-Leafs in the ECF and the Isles eliminating Tavares. That would be great theater!
I was out and recorded the game,,just watched it yes yes yes ------can you imagine how good they would be if they had some more talent ?
Great game by the Isles. Glad the could go out and win one for the coach. Now just keep rolling towards the playoffs.
Caps getting doubled up by the Hawks; hopefully we can extend our lead today. Despite their recent record, Ducks have actually blown quite a few third period and multiple goal leads so they are capable of jumping out ahead of teams.
Happy to bounce over to the game and see the last part of the second period, including the third goal. 3-0, keep it going, boys.
They’d really have to fall off the pace but it’s not inconceivable. I’d equally like to see them fall to the wildcard and have to play us in the opening round. Ultimately that team has this year or next to make a run, but in a couple of years that team could look so bad PJT will wish for some of his old Isles teams. I’m sure everyone assumes Nylander will pick it up but what if what he’s been this year is more of what he is going forward; for a team expected to end up in cap hell, and realistically see Austin Mathews bail, that contract could be a disaster for them. And I look forward to it.
