so you got nothin' to support the statement that Darnold is better than those guys. Cool, thanks for the conversation lol
Right. Trubisky benefitted from the scheme and the players around him. Like every QB in the NFL to some degree. If Sam Darnold ever scores 30 touchdowns and leads the Jets to 11 wins, some analyst will probably talk up the scheme and the players around him as well. But - he has to GET there first. As of 2019, he was a guy who struggled mightily in his rookie year, outside of a couple meaningless games down the stretch. I mean lets keep it real here, please
You’re welcome. He’s a better QB than them and it will be proven out over time. Of course he didn’t “out perform” them, I’m not blind Captain Literal.
What makes Darnold better than Mayfield and Goff specifically? And what about Wentz? When you say top 2, I assume you're granting Mahomes is better than Darnold. So you also have to explain why Darnold is better than Wentz. And Watson too. I'll grant you Trubisky and Prescott, but Darnold had better improve next year even to get to where they are.
Exactly. I mean I know we are excited about the young QB. I also know its cool to have a real hot take. But its ignorant to the league to make those kind of statements
Are you arguing that those guys are better now, or better at the same point in time of their careers? If the argument is right now, than there isnt much of an argument. They were all better than Sam in 2018 I mean Trubisky/Goff/Wentz all had pretty similar rookie seasons to Darnold. Some were better in some statistics and some were worse, but overall Sam is definitely in the conversation. As for Mayfield, he was a beast. Better than Darnold all the way around right now.
Benefitted? More like having his career saved. He was not good with John Fox, who probably ran a shitty offense just like the Jets with Bates. Just saying, that Wildcard game, he was not impressive. He couldn't make any big throws against backup DBs. He's very mobile, can make a throw now and then, but he severely held back that team, a healthy team to boot. He took no chances. Heck, he wasn't impressive when we played the Bears either.
Well it wasn't my argument to begin with. But the statement was made that Darnold is better than those guys. Clearly he's not. I agree with you that he could get to their level sometime, sure. I also agree with you that Mayfield is something special
Agreed. I saw big improvement down the stretch of the season, especially in regards to turnovers. I can't wait to see him in a real offense.
Geezuz christ guys, really? This is all opinion based bullshitting. I'm not suggesting Darnold was BETTER than any of those guys LAST year--Mayfield was incredible had an incredible year, Goff looked great for a stretch there and Trubisky--even though he sucks--looked a lot better than how I thought he was going to be, What I was saying was that in my opinion--in my HUMBLE opinion--Darnold is a better more talented QB and over time will be the superior QB to all of them. Holy crap with the captain literal stuff. Btw, when we drafted Sam I said "we finally got our true franchise QB" and somebody said--"he hasn't even played a game so how can you anoint him as a true franchise QB?!?" I mean, common. I guess I need to put IMHO on my Darnold posts.
Exactly. Take out Jeff Fisher and give him McVay and look what happened. Take out Bowles and give Sam Gase and let's see what kind of jump he takes.
Why are you discounting the final 4 games at the end of the season when Darnold 1. Came back from injury and looked even better 2. Played well in a difficult schedule playing top defenses such as Buffalo and Houston? I think when evaluating a rookie their final games of the season matter more than earlier in the season as they have several games under their belt.
As long as we're being literal here, in what world is the first game of the season considered "down the stretch". Ok, never mind I'm not going to go there. I'm not going to be "that guy".
And he did that with literally--oh shit I don't mean LITERALLY--I mean figuratively-- NO professional WRs or RBs and a shit OLine. No Q, Kearse mailing it in, no Crowell, no Powell.
I'm just asking what about Darnold's game makes you like him so much? What potential does he have that the others don't? Arm talent, instinct, etc?
