The best catch of the off season. Now if we get two shiny new toys on the defense, we'd be ready to rock and roll. [LOL]
Was he the reason for the Browns' success? Or was it Mayfield and Kitchens? Dorsey for one seems to think it was the latter.
So don't say it DOESN'T work that way when it DOES. Just speak the truth. You'll be a happier person.
When Gase was hired one of the hardest things for me was that I believe it hurts our chances to some degree to bring in FA. You can say it's all about the $ but there is allure to play for coaches you want to play for even if it's just the factor that swings a split decision one way or another. The Williams hire will atleast counteract that on the defensive side of the ball which could be huge. Him being the HC essentially of the defense means defensive players won't have to worry about butting heads w/ Gase.
My vote is nyjunc. No problem, he'll be positive once we sign Sanchez to back-up QB . Sorry, couldn't resist.
Williams is a good hire because he'll give us a decent defense and free up Gase to coach the offense, but he's no savior. Kitchens and Mayfield saved the Browns' season, not Williams. If Gase and Darnold don't work out, the Jets are still going to lose.
So happy with this hire. Was really worried when it wasn't announced yesterday that maybe the talks had fallen apart. I think the brakes need to be pumped on the 4-3 conversion talks though. We are much better situated to continue with a 3-4, or at least a hybrid D, and there's a good chance Josh Allen will be sitting there at 3. Williams literally runs every scheme, and adapts to talent over specific scheme, which is one of the main reasons I wanted him here.
Hey the Oilers won that game right . Actually that was one of my most depressing moments as as Jet fan. They blew a game the week before against the Bills when Cary Blanchard missed three field goals. Then (if my memory is correct) all of the early games went the Jets way and they still had a chance to make the playoffs with a win. Unfortunately the Jets got embarrassed with the post season on the line.
1. I didn't mention that, did I? 2. If the offense stinks, they are going down anyway, so what's your point? Gregg doesn't coach offense if anything.
You called him the best catch of the offseason. I'm saying he isn't. He's a decent DC and nothing more. The best catch of the offseason had better be Gase, or we're screwed.
Gase is calling the plays. It's his offense. He also explicitly stated that he was looking for a guy to be the "head coach" of the defense, so his focus will overwhelmingly be on the offense. (Similar to the 09 Saints or current Rams). I'm not that worried about the OC.
I’m happy with it Someone here made the good point earlier in the thread Either you hire someone who was fired Retired /Quit Or is unknown Pick your poison I like Greggggggg - the guy is in it to win it and not sorry it’s pro football not Sunday school
Gregg Williams turning down 8 Head Coaching jobs to take this Defensive Coordinator position really shows you how far the Jets have come! Amen! That is all that matters. I think Chris Johnson is trying and really does care. Will he succeed? Time will tell.
