They had a detailed plan on when to take footballs from a ref, and the exact route of where to take them without cameras. Had the timing worked out and everything. It was well rehearsed. Who knows how much else is rehearsed, such as how to jam headset communications, bugs in the locker rooms, etc. Much harder to execute on elaborate cheating plans away from home.
