We don't need a QB, but for the teams that do 2019 is a weak class. Now there are reports Murray may declare for the draft. The guy is freakishly talented and played every bit as well as Baker did at Oklahoma last year. But he's 5'10" at best (really more like 5'9"), runs a lot, and isn't as physically strong as Russell Wilson. He also may not be 100% devoted to football because he's a great baseball player too. First round pick or no? EDIT: Murray's great but after this game, he might just stick to baseball. It's safer.
I would personally not take him in the 1st, maybe I'd look into it in the later rounds but not with a first round. Not worth the risk that he'd leave imo
naw, Trevor Lawrence or death if I am a team needing a QB right now. I wonder what teams will tank for like 2 years lol
I'm just voting 1st because I want the possibility of somebody trading up. I haven't followed him at all.
A modern day Flutie. Probably take him middle-late first where he's expected to go. The fear of baseball should lower his draft stock.
It's a really tough call. He is an incredible athlete. Not only is his size a factor but so is the threat of baseball. I really don't know but I do think he is worthy of being a 1st round pick. If you are Murray though, seriously dude, go with baseball. Guaranteed contracts, higher pay, longer career, easier on the body... It's a no brainer for him.
The problem is Murray still has a ways to go before being a good major leaguer. He may never even get there, there are top 10 baseball picks who never see the majors. Whereas in football, because spread QBs can win right away these days, Murray is already NFL ready.
I think that if he goes the NFL route he might change his mind after some of the huge hits that he's bound to take. Can he declare for the NFL Draft, then go back to baseball if he's not picked in the 1st Round?
He could do that. But the moment he plays for an NFL team he has to give up the $4.6 million signing bonus that he signed with the Oakland A’s. $4.6 million is more than he will make in an NFL rookie contract, year 1, no matter where he’s selected. Also NFL teams would be cautious of selecting him if they knew he might not ever play for them I suppose he could renegotiate his contract with Oakland to allow him to play both sports going forward. But the As aren’t exactly gonna jump at that opportunity. He’s probably gonna have to choose 1 over the other and soon.
He should surely go to Oakland then - follow the money - and with his slight build I can't see him lasting too long in the NFL
Not touching a QB @ 5'8. He's undraftable if I'm the GM. I'd allocate my resources elsewhere instead of taking Murray who won't be able to see over the OL/DL without constant movement in the pocket. There'll be no just dropping back to throw.
He is entering the NFL Draft. You can add the Broncos as a team looking to draft their future quarterback this year.
Shortest QB in NFL history was Eddie LeBaron 5"7 who played in the 50's and 60's. Doug Flutie was 5"10 supposedly, and he looked like a mouse compared to the o-line. Murray will get beat to a pulp, but if it gets us a better draft pick or more of them, let the kid play!
