If marcus mayr stays healthy he could be a star under Williams. Lot of cover 1 on the back end of his defenses.
Done deal as per SNY. Now this signing I like. This guy is super aggressive runs a 4-3 defense which I've always liked. Now the Jets will have to tweak their personnel and maybe trade crackhead Darron Lee as he is not a middle linebacker. He is leaps better than the human cadaver we had for the last 4 years.
I have been expressing how much I HATE the Gase hire and only time will tell.....but have to give credit where it is due to Gase for even talking to Williams about this job. Being a HC that has been labeled as arrogant and stubborn etc..... the looking to hire a big personality like Williams who is just coming off a HC gig in which he did very well takes some putting your ego to the side and a lot of self confidence and being pretty secure and self aware in who you are. Give him credit. Not easy
I don't think this is a done deal at all. Most reports say they are in discussions. Williams is a lunatic (in the best way) so who knows if he'll bail last second.
Ziggy Ansah and [the good] Josh Allen seem like a pretty decent offseason to me defensively all of a sudden...
Can someone not named BuddyRyan46 please start a combined/consolidated/hiring/firing thread? I know that's a ton to ask, but it might be easier to follow in the end. Just a suggestion, and thanks to any potential whomsoever that has the time or the gumption. I'm just getting a headache with this already, even though the threads are far from garbage. Plus, I'm a lazy slob. Obviously I would do it my Leonard Williams fat self if I wasn't.
Finally for once we will see a defense where all 11 guys go after the ball. It's been years. If guys aren't pursuing the ballcarrier Williams will pull their ass out of the game. For far too long this Jets team has relied on single defenders making a tackle and the guys on the backside taking it easy. Williams doesn't tolerate that and he's had up and down defenses but they always are teams that gang tackle and pursue
Just curious why you guys are so excited about hiring Greg Williams as DC? 2018 Browns #30 2017 Browns #14 2016 Rams #9 2015 Rams #23 2014 Rams #17 2011 Saints #24 2010 Saints #4 2009 Saints #25 2008 Jags #17 Those are the total defense rankings for the teams he was the DC for 3/9 seasons he finish in the top half of the NFL 6/9 seasons he didn't. I think the Pats, Dolphins and Bills are more excited he's the new DC than Jets fans. This guys reminds me of Rex Ryan.......living off the work he's done in the past(Titans, Bills , Skins). Hasn't been a top DC in a decade........just living off his name.
Sure pal............ Williams is a good DC. I don't know how the Browns ranked 30th last year. They seemed pretty good to me. They just got into shoot outs because the offense was doing so well.
This is annoying. 1. They haven't even negotiated yet. 2. We could have had a Monken/Williams package deal?!
New #Jets coach Adam Gase is on the verge of a big hire: Former #Browns interim coach Gregg Williams is in talks with Gase to become their new defensive coordinator, sources say. Things are progressing in this direction, and those involved believe it’ll get done. 2,146 1:24 PM - Jan 11, 2019 If he changes us over to a 4-3 base defense it will definitely help big cat. Also Lee will be playing outside to utilize his speed.
I get what you are saying but sometimes it isn't about the numbers and more about the eye test. His defenses typically are fast and they attack the qb. The past few years the Browns defense has improved. The #30 this year concerns me but I think Williams can make a game plan and really use Adams, Maye and Johnson in ways some others can't. If he can get Williams to play up and we can find an edge rusher we could have a fun stifling defense. I don't think he is the best dc ever but of anyone else out there who did you want? Vance Joseph or Pagano were ok. I think Williams is better than the other two. Time will tell. Still not thrilled with Gase but feel better today.
