They aren't backing off dude it's a done deal. They signed him yesterday, the press conference will be early next week.
The media is trolling Jets fans. They have to be. First the Jim Harbaugh rumor. Now this? Too much to be coincidences.
Possible reasons for the deal to fall through: 1. The Jets just found out the Peyton Manning call was a prank by some guy living in his mother's basement with way too much time on his hands.. 2. Gase just called Chris a "trust-fund buffoon who doesn't know shit about football or anything else worth knowing." Chris got particularly upset when everyone else in the room nodded in agreement. 3. Woody just called Chris from London: "Are you fuckin' nuts? Did you really think I meant it when I told the media you were in full charge of the team?" 4. The deal-breaker was Gase's demand that the Jets hire Mehta as Gase's personal valet.
Is that Adam Gase's HS Year book photo? I would assume that it is based on your last avatar of Coach Bowles. Anyway, he looks so Rico Suave, lol.
Find it interesting that NYjets.com still has no mention of supposed hire, and the latest stories are about interviewing other candidates.

This whole coaching search pretty clearly said why we need Charlie Casserley or someone outside the organization to run the search. CJ is not qualified.

From the earliest I can remember, I was always disappointed about deals falling through for the Jets... Belechick, Antoine Winfield, etc, This one would be a late Christmas miracle!!!
I believe the contractual hold-ups are the image rights relating to Gase. The Jets are expecting large sales of Gase/dartboard combos.
Joseph was Gase's right hand man during that playoff run and he's choosing to go with a coach with very little NFL notoriety. Not to mention the run with Gase helped him get a head coach gig..... Doesn't this tell us something about how people feel about working under Gase?
