I still maintain Mac was never gonna sign off on McCarthy who would have the resume and clout to get him booted after a year.

Great points. He is the Head Coach of the Jets now. No matter what, fans should be hoping he succeeds.
Great quote. These TDK references are saving this thread, I tell ya! :)

Question for those who hate the Gase hire. What was your reaction when Bowles got hired? I recall pretty positive feedback.

None of it will really matter. If Darnold is a franchise QB, your coach will be made to look good. If he’s not, the head coach will look bad. I don’t think Gase is all that bad, at least you didn’t hire Kliff Kingsbury.

I don't hate the Gase hire, but I would have went in another direction. I wanted Rex gone for sure, as he deserved to be fired, so I was happy when Bowles was hired. He ran a good defense for the Cardinals. He was no-non sense. The opposite of Rex. Things quickly changed around the middle of the 2016 season.

  8. Well if he doesnt learn hes gone & this fan base does its best impression of Houston 94.

Look im not saying we should be jumping for joy..i think skepticism is approriate bc its not a slam dunk but neither was any candidate. But a disaster or ill fitted for the job question..i just dont think thats the case

I think the jets just told everyone they plan to go after either bell or brown of the steelers.

When I was a cop working nights, we had a nightly briefing folder with Batman on a rooftop. It said "Alpha Nights aka The Dark Knights." I admit to having a Batman logo tattoo'd on my arm. Please don't allow anyone to make posts even mentioning Gase and Batman in the same breath. I was angry enough the Jets had Gotham City merchandise this year. I'm sensitive about these things. ;)

I’m sure Le’veon will jump at the chance to play for a guy that a ton of his former players hated. What a great bargaining chip to come to the negotiating table with.

Maybe you missed the memo but we are bringing in Vance Joseph, the other guy who helped make Miami average at best.

I'm not looking to rain on your parade, Kurt, and I even agree with some of your points, but as to the bolded, I think age has much less to do with it than personality and propensity for personal growth. Rex was 52 when he was hired by the Bills, but other than that you could have written a corresponding list for him (many points being the opposite, but still things that coaches get praised for, like great motivator, engenders loyalty, defensive minded, etc.). We know how that worked out for them. Herm and Mangini also made the playoffs in their first jobs (here), and were failures in their second jobs because they couldn't improve their weaknesses (and Mangini was 38). Even the great Belichick, who should be the poster boy for rehabilitation, really isn't - he was 6-14 in his first 20 games with the Pats, and without the intervention of Mo Lewis might have easily been fired because he didn't change himself at all from who he was in Cleveland.

I actually view the Belichick example as instructive. If Darnold takes a Goff/Wentz-like leap in his second year this could end up being a very happy McVay-Rams/Pederson-Eagles-type marriage, but if not this to me has disaster written all over it, precisely because I see no reason to think that Gase will actually improve his weaknesses at all.

I'm not seeing anything official yet.

There's still time to hire Williams which would be a brilliant hire.

It would be too easy to bullet point his negatives.
I'm going to call out 2 of yours though.

1-Demands a very high standard from those around him
    2-Holds players accountable
    Both completely false.
He repeatedly played inferior players who he had a friendship with over better players.
There was zero accountability in Miami.

That I would be on board with. They will be at each other's throats and be fired after 1 year. Anything to get Gase out the door faster is brilliant
