I hope you are right, but I don't see it. He has a history of alienating players. He sits, runs talent off his roster. Plays guys he likes personally over better players. Let's see how he meshes with our young core. I'd hate to see good players sitting out. He also is not a disciplinarian. Just plays favorites. Never had control over the Miami locker room. I think this is going to be such a fucking disaster that Bowles will look good in hindsight. I'd have taken any candidate over Gase. I honestly think he's that bad.
I love Peyton, I do. He probably knows football just a little bit better than me, but I think he's wrong here. Big difference between HC and OC.
Jets still would need to acquire another rangey linebacker or 2, perhaps Kevin Pierre-Louis's role will increase. Would need to solidify the depth. Jenkins, I wonder if they move him down to a defensive end on some packages. He had a pretty nice year for us, I hope the production we got from him last season continues.
If they weren't so incompetent I'd almost feel sorry for the Johnsons. They've clearly admitted they don't know about football offloading their last few hires to respected football minds (Casserly/Wolf/Peyton) and this probably won't work out any better than the Casserly/Wolf hires of Bowles and Mac.
Rozelle makes me sneer with the way he acted out the whole O'Brien pick. He hesitated on 'quarterback' with a smirk on his face knowing what people were hoping for and what was coming next.
Just a heads up: I keep seeing people post about his attitude in Miami. I live down here in Miami, and I can tell you all first hand, Dolphins ownership and management is absolutely HATED. I honestly don't think the problem was Gase
Seriously though. Now that it's coming out that he was yelling at the owner of the Dolphins I'm starting to come around on this. I've wanted to yell at our owner for a loooooong time. So at least we have that going for us.
I love this hire. He will bring out the best in Sam - be open minded folks - he overachieved w/the Dolphins, hopefully he will overachieve w/us too.
How long do you think Adam gets here? I dont think Gase will have the leash that Bowles had. If they dont make significant improvements by the second and third year (i.e. playoffs) then I think both Gase and MM will be gone. 3 years max to turn this around.
I respect your opinion & take nothing you say lightly. The jets fired Mangini for essentially being this way so i gotta believe this was vetted or gase has agreed to make some changes in how he handles people. That said..Brian Billick famously told his players “ill treat you all fair but i cant treat you equally”. Its impossible in professional sports to be even steven across the board. There are too many variables & moving pieces. All coaches play favorites. Clearly Gase got the dynamic wrong along the way but i dont view favortism as a red flag in all honesty.
The Jets have the equivalent coach picking skills that Charley Brown does picking Christmas trees. What a total bone-head choice. How do you not pick McCarthy a guy who has at least won a Superbowl and groomed Aaron Jones. Instead they opt for a sub-par doofus with a losing record. I think there is a better chance of the mother ship landing in Central Park than any of us seeing the Jets head to the Superbowl in our lifetimes. Pathetic.
