What if your coach was Jim Lee Howell, your OC was Vince Lombardi, and your DC was Tom Landry? It happened.
I get the optimistic approach. I do. Nothing wrong with that and I dont blame people for finding McCarthy appealing. I just think it's silly to act like he doesnt yave red flags and that some of us may not feel so optimistic with the idea of hiring him because of the red flags that are there. Like I've said, if hes the hire. I'm All In. For me, though. The red flags outweigh the potential. I think that should be okay too. I definitely see why people see it the other way. I just wont stand for being called lazy because I go against the grain because I just dont buy into it for the sake of his past success.
Very good listen FYI. Owlscoop.com editor John DiCarlo spoke about Rhule's time in Temple + his connection to Robby Anderson.
https://sports.yahoo.com/report-mike-mccarthy-wants-coach-jets-next-season-151822138.html Has this already been posted? McCarthy wants the Jets job. Do the Jets want him?
Posted last night/early AM. I think the consensus is, if McCarthy isn't hired tonight/tomorrow, it's not happening.
The program isn't turned around yet. They were basically 6-6 this year. They shouldn't have gone to bowl game, but because they're a Texas school and the bowl game was in Texas, they got to go, so finished with a winning record. They played Duke this year. Duke has a good team, but they were struggling at the point and had several starters out with injuries. Duke isn't exactly a football powerhouse and they beat Baylor pretty easily. I listened to most of that game on the radio, and wasn't very impressed with Baylor, and I didn't know who Rhule was yet. Duke jumped out to a 23-0 half time lead. Baylor came back to make it somewhat close, but Duke won 40-27.
You need to go do some research on those WRs. They were perfect for McCarthy's scheme. They could beat their man one-on-one and get open.
All the Rhule leaks have to be some tactic to scare McCarthy into accepting some sticking point in negotiations. It makes zero sense to me that this franchise would be deciding between two coaches on opposite ends of the experience spectrum. It shows me that the FO either has no idea what they really want in a HC or they are playing hard ball. It also makes no sense that an accomplished HC like McCarthy would stay in the race for this long knowing that he is up against someone that nobody has ever heard of until last week.... unless they are close. None of it makes any sense. If I’m MM and the jets really didn’t seem interested I would take my 7million from Green Bay, wish the jets luck with their college coach and walk. What makes you think that Rhule is a "yes" man? I have read nothing that would even remotely indicate that.
I bet if we were to re vote with just three names, the numbers will be almost even between MCCarthy and Monken with Rhule a distant third. I would further submit to you guys that the NYJ leadership, as most all of us, have some reservations with all three. Unfortunately, it seems there are no other serious options. As you would expect the good ones are employed. So IMO the decision process is still on going trying to answer four basic questions 1- is MM capable of renewing his thinking to the faster and more dynamic offenses of todays NFL and can be flexible enough to fit the scheme to optimize the players strengths? 2- Can Monken establish the righ strategy and assemble a capable and winning staff on both sides of the ball? 3- Can Rhule take the quantum leap to the NFL and does he have the connections to capture a good staff? 4- Who has the better chance to strengthen discipline, gain the respect of the players and develop a winning culture Whomever is selected should know painfully well that the fan base has been waiting a lifetime for serious improments and patience and time will not be on his side.
McCarthy's scheme was perfect for them. The team never had to invest in a first round pick at WR, each guy was replaceable, and the team never missed a beat when they moved on. I think you need to do more research than reading forum comments.
It isn't unlike Mac to drag things out and play hardball. He did it with Fitz and Mo, and he did it last August with Darnold.
