I get all that, but 1-11 is rough no matter what the circumstances are. After the scandal in 2018 he still didn't exactly kill with 7-6 record, which for Baylor is one of the worst seasons in recent history. I get that it does not disqualify him, but I am hard pressed to declare him one of the best NCAA talents. Sounds like he has a lot more work to do at Baylor before even being considered for NFL.
It was reported by a tampa beat writer in a podcast on Monken that the reason he was not a candidate was his connection to Koetter not for his ability.
But this recent season would be more fair and he finished 85th in passing and something like 124th out of 130 teams in redzone. He is an offensive dud
Can we make a decision... 8 candidates and no announcement yet. I really do not want another unproven coach w/no NFL experience but whomever is chosen my hope is they can at least 1) change the losing culture, 2) get rid of all underperforming players and any malcontents and 3) make intelligent decisions regarding the coaching staff... because the last guy was absolutely the worst. .
Like I had mentioned, Rhule is or was transitioning from spread to pro style concepts....basically a massive overhaul. No excuse but there's a reason why.
This reminds me of Bowles hire. We did not want to wait for someone with proven winning record, SB credentials (Quinn) and settled for someone without many accomplishments even as a coordinator - Bowles. The results is mediocrity. Heck, even when we got Rex Ryan I was excited since he had credentials and actually delivered for the first few years. But I am afraid it would be another Bowles like disappointment with the guy with a losing NCAA record (and very recent losing season record) like Rhule.
This is what bothers me. I get that MC is not a perfect candidate. But the guy has won a lot and has major credentials. We keep saying how we need a winner, then turn around and get a coach with LOSING record in NCAA, not even NFL. This makes absolutely no sense.
Well he coached Temple to a couple 10 win seasons. Temple. I'd say what he was doing was working. We need a complete HC, not just an 'offensive mind'. If it came down to Rhule, Monken, Gase or Richard, I'd take Rhule.
Mike is not even that old - 55, same as Bowles. He is not incapable of making adjustments with a new team. He also won SB, always went to play-offs. It's quite rare you get a chance to get a SB winning coach. I get that he was fired for a reason, but heck, so was Belichik from Browns. To me, it is a no brainer to give this guy a shot. Certainly over a losing NCAA coach.
McCarthy spent the last 8 years not making he Super Bowl with Aaron Rodgers, why would he be able to do better with the Jets? Why not just hire Parcells again, if the sole criteria is a Super Bowl win in the past? Confusing!
I wouldn't kill this dude based on record. He took over 1 program (Temple) who always sucked, and turned them around and beat PSU for the first time in like 700 years. Then he had a 1-11 run with Baylor after the program got totally slammed after the sexual assault thing. So his record isn't too important. Could be a good hire. Depends on the coordinators.
