Why not Monken? He turned around a college program as a HC, has a lot more experience in the NFL, and did amazing things with the Bucs' offense. Rhule's offenses have been mediocre.
This would be SO Jetsian! Not only first time NFL HC, but also not an offensive guy! Move over Einstein, the new definition of insanity is: The Johnsons.
Dude, he's not drawing up plays on his hand in the huddle. He's audibling to other plays designed by McCarthy. And no I haven't, no way I can read 135 pages
I agree with everything you said here. But with the Jets WR corps and with Sam needing developing, I don't want an OC that doesn't scheme his WRs open or call easy passes to get his QB in a rhythm at the beginning of games. There's no downside to that, and imo there's no good reason for not having some plays like that in one's playbook. The fact that McCarthy doesn't to me says that he's stubborn and old-fashioned, and that things can only be done his way (i.e., square pegs must fit into round holes, he isn't flexible and won't adapt his system to the talent he has on hand.).
Hopefully we can drop the no one wanted McCarthy narrative, as well as no one wants the Jets job narrative. Some real fan whining been going on.
What's so special about this guy? He went 1-11 a year ago, and 7-6 last year. 36-40 record in NCAA. I know some people don't want McCarthy, but McCarthy accomplished himself in NFL, this guy seems lacking accomplishments even in NCAA.
I didn't say he was drawing up plays in the dirt, but the Packers had to run something. He could only call plays that were in the playbook. Rodgers may not have liked those plays either, but he obviously liked them more than the play that McCarthy had called for some reason, i.e., he thought they had a better chance of succeeding. It still doesn't mean that if there weren't other plays available, that he wouldn't have called one of them.
I like that Ballard interviewed Rhule last year as Ballard seems to know what he’s doing. I’m high on Rhule as a HC, just wish I knew who he’d be bringing in as OC.
No, GB. That was your initial point. What happened in KC has nothing to do with what happened in GB. To follow your own advice, stay in the same lane. You're trying to compare apples and oranges.
Turned the program around amid sanctions due to the scandal at Baylor. Edit: Which, I have to add, is far more impressive to me than what Monken did at a C-USA school.
If the Jets hire Adam Gase to be their HC followed by hiring Gregg Williams to run the defense I'll feel much like I did when Darnold fell to them in the draft. Things are finally breaking our way.
No one knows what's going on.....everyone is tweeting general opinions that they can easily decipher later and claim they had the inside track. Ian Rappaport was the most genuine about the whole deal, said "nobody really knows what's going on with the Jets search....other than McCarthy, Gase, Monken and Rhule seem to be the finalist."
When he went to Baylor in 2017, they did not not qualify for a bowl for the first time since 2009. Finished with 1-11 record. Followed up with 7-6 record. Before he came over, in years 2014-16, they had 11-2, 10-3, 7-6 record. I know he had a couple of good season before that (and few bad ones prior to that), but it appears Baylor is way worse with him than before him. Why is he considered for HC on an NFL team is beyond me.
Those are perfect WR's? Not one of them were drafted in the first round, and not one of them was a physical freak in terms of size or speed where they couldn't be defended one on one. Did you ever notice how replaceable each one of them was in the system? Every time one moved on, the next stepped up and they didn't miss a beat. That to me is a result of playing with a great QB in a very passing friendly system, not the other way around. That's what we need to develop here. I'd be more concerned about his lack of committing to the run than I would be about the passing game. But not relying on the run could also be due to the studs he had at QB. With a young QB like Darnold, I'd like to see a more balanced attack.
