What shit is that? The Jets have never gone the safe route, and only 3 times in their history have they opted for an experienced former NFL HC. Come on. There are enough biased, ridiculous things being put forth in this thread. There are valid points on each side of the issue. There are reasons why McCarthy could be a good hire and there are reasons why he could be a so-so or even a bad hire.
6 games is still an improvement over the 4 we got this year. All depends on the staff the new HC brings with him. Something Bowles never did get right.
Funny thing is, Green Bay fans are not knocking McCarthy at all. He's pretty well respected by their fan base. About the worst thing being said is it was time for a change. Aron Rodgers is actually getting much more criticism from the Green Bay fans than McCarthy. They think McCarthy would be a great hire by the Jets. Meanwhile, the Miami boards have several threads with dozzens of pages laughing at each post here wanting Gase.
This team is a pass-rusher away from being a playoff team. They should've won 7 this year. Horrible decision to fire Morton, and injuries hurt the team.
I wouldn't. 2010 was 8 years ago. That division hasn't been that tough until the last couple of years. The Bears and Lions have been awful. The Vikings are the only team that has consistently given the Packers any challenge at all until the last couple of years. Yes, he lost Rodgers in 2017, but McCarthy's offensive system/scheme may be at least partially responsible for Rodgers getting injured. If it's true that he depends too much on Rodgers extending plays and making a miraculous throw, and that he refused to add more routes, more combination routes and scheme his WRs open, it forces Rodgers to have to hold th ball longer if they're going to have successful plays. With a QB like Rodgers, receivers like Jordy Nelson and Davante Adams (and others), and a pass rusher like Clay Matthews, the Packers should have won a lot of games and division championships during that time.
You don’t think Herm, Mangini, Rex and Bowles are the dictionary definition of safe? A bunch of defensive guys with no sack whatsoever that were never ever going to challenge an offense?
This team will only be as good as the HC and CS calling the shots. I think we're in a bit more of a need than just one pass-rusher. Bowles may have not been the greatest HC ever, but he really didn't have a playoff calibre roster either last year. Firing Morton is ironically one of the reasons why Bowles got fired this year. Injuries happen to every team but it helps to have depth. You saw our depth on display and it wasn't pretty. I'm banking on McCarthy using his experience as an NFL HC to assemble a better staff than Bowles did. Hopefully he'll keep Boyer as our ST's were the best unit on the team. The schedule is no cakewalk either in 2019. There's always the temptation to overrate our team and undervalue the other guys. Teams just can't overcome shitty staffs. Neither can HC's... "The Hire" is everything...
Cman it appears to me they are reeling you back in,,,,,thought you would like the fishing analogy LOL------> PS McCarthy has not been announced or been named coach YET a lot can happen, after all we are discussing the NY Jets here don't forget it,, keep your left up Cman
It was a roster that should have contended for a wildcard spot until the last few weeks at the least. I think having a pass-rusher would've allowed the Jets to close some of those games earlier in the year. Like the Browns game, Dolphins game. A lot of teams lack depth but the team wasn't completed devoted of talent.
If there's no hire in the next couple days yes. But as of now no, considering we finished our last interview less than 24 hours ago.
I am still expecting a 2nd round of second interviews with 2 to 3 candidates unless one candidate truly stood out. I am impressed with the lack of leaks.
Well, IDT McCarthy will do a 2nd - either you know enough about him from his extensive record to want or you don't, If it's not McCarthy, then yeah, a 2nd round of talks might be needed.
Browns name Kitchens HC. Smart move. Hopefully we follow suit and ignore McCarthy for better options like they did.
Because you know that's what happened? No one knows who put that interview on hold, could very well have been Mccarthy
