When did he play again? Back when McCarthy's offense was the norm and they were running it perfectly. Let me know when Davante Adams thinks McCarthy would be a great coach.
I'm not saying there is and that fact, along with how bad Bowles was, is making McCarthy seem like Lombardi. Sent from my SM-G928V using Tapatalk
It seems to be a very strong possibility that the next coach will be one of McCarthy, Gase, Monken, Rhule. Each of them have their pluses and minuses and I’m surprised some of you are so sure in your convictions on each of them with having such little information available. McCarthy- makes a lot of sense for this franchise at this time. Can he modernize his offense? Does he come with a more modern OC? I have no idea but if the answer is yes to these he is clear choice. Gase- Experience, offensive mind were two prerequisites for most before Bowles was fired. Can he not be an asshole like some HCs have learned in their 2nd jobs? I have no idea but if he can he can be a great HC. Monken- id be excited for this hire. I like that he has HC experience and comes with the aggressive mindset that most of us have been craving forever. Can he bring a quality defensive staff with him? Can he lead a team and be face of franchise? No clue but if he can he’s my top choice. Rhule- CEO type. The fact that he made temple winners is very impressive to me. I live in Philly and that team becoming a story was pretty big, Rhule was god status. Can he bring a top offensive staff with him? Does he have an aggressive attacking attitude? No clue. I can live with any of the 4.
Have you seen Rodgers as a rookie in the preseason? Youtube it. He could have no SBs and just be an average QB. McCarthy would be good for the entire offense. Offensive line has been decent in his tenure and his receivers are decent in his scheme. Jordy when he left, he didn't do anything with Carr and the Raiders.
If you hire Monken, Rhule or Richard's it would be helpful to pair him with a coordinator that has had previous HC exp like Nolan, Caldwell or Greg Williams.
ok I won't "ignore" the criticisms. I'll ask about them. Your criticisms seem to make no sense. they are contradictory. On one hand McCarthy is a guy who can't adapt and is thin skinned. On the other hand McCarthy is a guy who let his QB change his plays at the line a lot. Someone who can't adapt and has thin skin, doesn't let the QB change his plays. They are rigid in their philosophy and take it too personal. --- This last post though, at least it's got some football sense and not fugazi bullshit. Yeah, if he mismanages the clock or whatever, I'm gonna criticize. But what makes you think some inexperienced candidate like the others considered are gonna be better at game management than a guy who has been a successful head coach in the NFL for 13 years?
Well underwhelming id take issue with.Hes been a great HC up until recent. A change of scenery would do him well. Outdated there might be some validity to & that needs to be vetted by the jets. I never found him to be that conservative but never felt he was aggressive either;Middle of the road. But his play calls being overridden by the QB & his play design being primitive.I dont buy into.No 2 teams are running the same offense right now & most of them are dilluted college schemes w RPO. Bottom line is can you put your players in position to succeed? Up until recently he absolutely has. Something to be said for just lining up & executing for a change rather than trying to outsmart everyone else but inevitably outsmarting ourselves.
Why would I give the keys to a team that is ready to take the next step to someone that needs a more experienced coordinator to hold his hand? Makes no sense... if he isn't ready and can't do it on his own, then don't hire him.
Does this question really need to be answered? Being a NFL HC requires so many skills and abilities managing different people it helps a ton for a new HC or even an experienced HC to have someone there that has done it before to give advice, share knowledge and answer questions. Especially if we are talking about a guy like Rhule coming out of college.
The problem is that he hasn't gone undefeated over his career. Of course I'm being facetious, no one could avoid losing games for their entire career, but just how many losses are acceptable to these people? Nor is any coach going to avoid making mistakes. But I'm certain that McCarthy wil make FAR fewer than Bowles did, and will do FAR more for Darnold. If McCarthy wants the job and they don't hire him, they're even dumber than I thought.
You think McCarthy LET Rodgers do it? The guy got fired. His players openly criticized his playcalling. I don't think he was playing nice with Rodgers. I think this was a battle between a stubborn coach and a bunch of players who knew they should be better than what they were. We know who won that battle. So no, my criticisms (which are the same criticisms everyone else has) aren't contradictory. You only view something as fugazi bullshit because you don't like it, I think that much we've learned. What makes you think a guy who has been a terrible game manager for 13 years is going to be any better? Do you think it's impossible for an "inexperienced" candidate to NOT be be a better game manager? It's posts like this that highlight the issues with hiring McCarthy. You're just settling for the safe option because you're afraid to take a chance. And I get it, we're Jets fans, we're trained to be terrified. But that shit hasn't worked for 50 years.
There's some truth to your point, but also to its opposite. Each team has their own needs and perspectives. The Jets have only had 3 experienced HCs in their entire history. They have had an endless stream of first-time HCs who, by and large, have been defensive coaches. Thus, hiring an experienced HC who is offensive minded, would be practically a first for them and would fill their need for stability, respectability, and for an offensive coach to help develop Sam. Other teams have had stability, a more mixed record with their HCs of offense and defense, experienced and first-time. Then there's the player coach vs the disciplinarian-type coach aspect, personality, needs of each team, etc.
I understand why people like him for the Jets and I’m not even totally against it, but there are legit concerns that some people are ignoring or making bad excuses for. If he brings along a hot shot OC I’d be a lot more comfortable with the hire It’s concerning that a long tenured coach who won a Super Bowl with a top franchise like the Packers was dumped mid season like he was...Things had to be very bad for it to come to that. I’m just digging in to what was so bad there
I wouldn't say that they were overdue for a HC opportunity, but rather they were thought to be ready or to have earned the opportunity. To my knowledge, no one was talking about either one as being a HC 2-3 years earlier.
Yes, but there were two other teams in the same position as us. One hired a brand-new first-time young hot shot, the other turned down McCarthy.
Sorry, I misread. I don't mean to say it wouldn't be helpful... of course I would rather have experienced people take up critical positions on the coaching staff. I just meant I don't want a head coach on the Jets that needs someone more experienced to learn how to be a NFL head coach. Not for this team. I understand other teams taking a risk on a rookie HC, but the Jets in their current state need someone to take the reigns from day one and bring credibility to the organization. Not someone that needs to prove himself to his own coaches, the team and the fanbase.
