  1. Maybe. But hes stilll only 40 & will learn from this experience. It seems like things always end poorly for Head coaches in Miami.

I think hes a good coach that deserves a second chance for a different team. Not my first or second choice but i could rally behind him

Wasn't this said about Bowles repeatedly? No sure thing. And hoe hr basically told the owner he was dumb is a very bad sign, even if it was true.

You don't know that he will learn from experience. Many coaches do not. Their ego gets in the way. Do you really want to count on that?

He's not terrible, but that's hardly something to recommend his hiring. If he's the hire, I'm done with the Jets.

Anyone other than Monken, McCarthy and Rhule, and I'm done, and I don't really want Rule. I don't think he'd be able to put together a quality CS with NFL experience, and I don't think he's ready to be an NFL HC. I also wouldn't want McCarthy if he's gonna bring the same old CS with him, and not change anything regarding his offense and play calling.

As per SNY TV....Mccarthy said it's the Jets or nothing. It wouldn't suprise me if we have a mutual agreement already. Get the guy signed & let him build a CS. hopefully he already knows who his staff will be. At this time I think Mccarthy is the best option for Sam & the rest of the young team. They need a leader with experience in the league, not a learn on the job coach. I don't consider him a re-tred. He has been a winning coach for the better part of 13 years. Just because Rogers was at odds with him & got him fired doesn't mean he is in decline. Just because the new RPO offense is the new wave doesn't mean his system doesn't work.

I could live with Monken, but you also better pray that we finally get it right with a first time head coach.

    McCarthy at nearly 60%

But if we hire him 90% of posts will be negative

    Gotta love human psychology

I have a feeling the hire will be announced soon, so here are my final thoughts. Feel free to bump them in a year from now if they look awful in hindsight. :)

Bieniemy: I don't think we'll hire him, but if we do I don't think he's the next Pederson or Nagy. They were QB coaches and Bieniemy isn't.
Caldwell: If we're going with a retread, might as well choose McCarthy.
Gase: When Peyton wasn't his QB, his offenses were always below average. And his players don't like him. I really hope he isn't the hire.
Kingsbury: Gone to Arizona. Could be great, could be a total flameout.
McCarthy: If he's willing to admit his mistakes and hire a forward-thinking OC, then he's my top choice. Otherwise we should pass on him.
Monken: If McCarthy is stuck in his ways, Monken's my top choice. He turned around Southern Miss, and he's the fearless offensive mind we need.
Rhule: Basically McCarthy but not clear if he can be an NFL coach. But I'd be willing to hire him if he blew me away in an interview.
Richard: Would be interested if we had a veteran QB. We don't so not interested.

Wouldn’t we be bringing in McCarthy for his offensive mind? And what kind of forward thinking OC do you think is available at this point in the off-season?

I hope it works out for the Jets regardless

I think the same as you here. If they don't get the coach I want, I'm not watching a game until we get to the playoffs. I can't spend more time and money on this. I don't love or bet on losers in any other part of my life. If the Jets don't turn it around very soon, I'm done. A part of me will always love them but I'm approaching the end of my time as a Jets fan.

I think the candidates have vetted the team as well as the team has vetted the candidates.
The interviews are always made up of tho owner, GM and several team executives.
Players are not a part of the process.
Subordinates do not get to pick their boss. It would be foolish for the Jets to include Darnold in the interview process , it could very well put off potential candidates. I would bet McCarthy for one would turn down the Jets job if Darnold was involved in the interview.

I don't recall if Darnold was reported as wanting to be involved or if he was actually going to meet at least some of the candidates. As far as being "part of the (interview) process," that is not something I suggested. We do know that at least a few of them had dinner with some team people during their visit. I would not find it inappropriate if Darnold had dinner with them; nothing wrong with a little up close and personal time to get to know one another.

I though we didn’t want a coach with consistently bad judgement. Maybe this guy was good at one point in time but those days are over. Not getting along with your Qb is not an excuse to make soo many bad decisions in 1 game.

Id put a link but a copy/past of the headline will have to do

How Mike McCarthy’s coaching mistakes robbed the Packers of a win over the Seahawks

The Packers head coach made several bad calls that opened the door for the Seahawks to steal a win.

Yeah McCarthy has been known for questionable in game management and conservative playcalling. All things we’ve killed Bowles for.

Dinner is one thing. It would be odd but not terrible.
My reply was toward the suggestions in this thread that Darnold has to be present during the interview and have a say in the final decision. Then those suggesting that even though he's home in Cali, he should be involved via Skype or Phone.

    Should have posted the article.
The 4 " bad calls " in question, don't seem so bad.
The failure to challenge the catch, which under today's catch rules would have stood. The first time out was called by Rodgers per Rodgers, can't blame McCarthy.
Not running Jones more late in the game, Rodgers has been reported to completely ignore the plays called in so we have no idea I'd more runs we're called or not.
Punting on 4th down, a sore spot for Jet fans, was the right call. Down 3 , Over 2 minutes to play still having a time out, deep in your own territory, 2 yards short of the first down.
