Mike Vrabel did a pretty damn good job in Tenn. 9-7 with a lot of talent limitations. Beat 4 playoff teams as well, including New England and the Eagles. He also assembled a good staff - one of which just got promoted to Green Bay's HC. In terms of Rhule, he hasn't coached a defensive position since 2006! Since then he's coached QBs, TEs, Oline, and has been an Offensive coordinator. He's also been a HC for 6 years now, completely turning around 2 different programs. Wining 10 games two straight seasons in Temple of all places is very impressive. That is the type of experience and versatility you want over an inexperienced QB coach or OC who hasn't done much else......simply "because offense". My only concern with Rhule is his ability to assemble a pro staff, considering he doesn't have much history in the pro game.
They kept a GM with a 37% win percentage. Apparently, according to Caporoso, that is the worst win percentage for any Jets GM who was there more than 2 years in the history of this mostly crappy franchise. Now that guy is helping to pick a new HC???? Does anyone really think Mac would pick anyone with enough clout to push him out the door, a la McCarthy? Just more blind leading the blind. I'm mentally preparing for Gase and volunteering to work a bunch of Sundays next season.
My top choices are still McCarthy, Monken, and Rhule. Really warming up to Monken. But the interview is over and like every other candidate he isn't hired.
Not close enough though apparently. If Arians would’ve been Bowles’ OC this past year, Bowles might still be here. But Arians chose TV
Well now the interview process is likely completed. Time for Macc and CJ to dissect the candidates. Hopefully it's one of Rhule, Monken or (I suppose) McCarthy. No to Gase or Caldwell please.
Yeah that’s probably what is happening. They’re gonna sit and make their decision probably tonight or tomorrow . I don’t think any of the above have officially been eliminated despite what twitter says ....although I don’t think Caldwell is realistic .
This guy is definitely a leader of men! Watch this video of Todd Monken back when he was coaching Miss
Unless they have decided on one candidate I would expect 2nd interviews to possibly go through the weekend or into next week. I don't think Johnson moves very fast. He wants to maximize our pain. But, I am excited. Even if its Gase I will be excited. Soon we will have a new coach, with a great situation, young talent and lots of hope and optimism. It is our time to dominate the division. We had the Phins in the 70s and 80s, Bert Jones and the Colts for a few years, the Bill's in the early 90s and the Pat's the last 20 years. It will soon be our turn.
This 1000%. Mac is a disaster and the longer this drags on the worse this situation gets. I've posted this several times in other threads, but for a second, forget the horrific job Mac has done here. Just go and look at what he did in Houston when he was the director of college scouting. Their drafts were ABYSMAL!! Other than JJ Watt, which was a no brainer, the drafts under his watch (and their GM at the time obviously) were putrid. How he managed to keep his job is beyond me. It can only be chalked up to complete and utter organizational incompetency. While I never felt Kingsbury was the answer, I am getting the very sick feeling that Gase is going to be the guy and that is simply unacceptable. He was despised by his players, nearly had a mutiny in the locker-room and proved his smartest decision was to ride the coat tails of Peyton Manning in order to ascend to an NFL HC. If the Jets do ultimately pick Gase, they have not only reaffirmed to their fans, but the entire NFL, that they are a hopeless and beyond clueless organization that can't get out of their own way (shocking.....right!?)
I really think they went into this process with the plan to wait to interview all candidates before deciding. Hopefully they were aware the coaches wouldn't just idly wait for them to make decisions. I'm not beating down the door for a guy with Kingsbury's resume but if the Jets really liked him but waited to complete all interviews before making an offer that's just incompetence and nothing has changed.
Revisiting an earlier point, I’m not sure it’s accurate that Darnold is speaking to all HC candidates. He just posted an Instagram story on the beach in California.
