Spot on! As a head man...the most important traits are leadership and the ability to organize. Coordinators are where you want the brainiacs if you will. Head coach is essentially your GM on the field. I would add guys like Patricia, Trestman on your list as well.
Exactly. With guys like that, as soon as there is adversity, the players will stop buying in. I've never seen a Jet team quit on a coach as fast as Mangini. He was a terrible HC, and not well liked at all. They clearly had no interest in sticking their necks out for him, and it showed. And instead of learning, he doubled down on his approach in Cleveland.
I'm increasingly becoming convinced the Jets are botching this ... which shouldn't surprise me because their upper management has historically botched 85-90% of the decisions they've been involved in (going back to Leon Hess). Other than McCarthy, I don't like any of these names being interviewed. If you're going to interview college coaches, why wouldn't you go after ones who have won National Championships (Saban, Meyer, Swinney), not young guys who haven't won anything. And these pro assistant names all blow - this is Herm Edwards all over again. Benigno is right - this team needs a guy who's done it before (someone like McCarthy, Tomlin, either Harbaugh, etc) ... not an entry-level coach. I'd take Rex Ryan in a heartbeat over every name in the poll (above) other than McCarthy. This is pathetic. The greatest cruelty in professional sports is that you cannot fire you favorite team's ownership.
Gase and Caldwell are at the bottom of my list for sure. KK is down there too because of his glaring lack of experience and past performance.. Ugh, wonder what time Monken is showing up if KK is still there.
Now that I think about Matt Rhule is our guy to rule. Monk second and Caldwell. That's my order I'm looking at currently. Get it done Mac
Once I heard New England would be interested in replacing McDaniels with Kingsbury it piqued my interest for him. Now that I know he has Jets "blood", I'm thinking he's getting to the top of the Jets' list quickly.
Yeah, but I can't help but wonder if the Patriots leaked that just to make Christopher Johnson try to hire him ASAP. Wouldn't shock me.
What has he shown anywhere? He's done literally nothing other than be present for Peyton Manning's career resurgence where he basically told Gase to stay out of the way.
I posted my response before I saw yours, but we are in agreement. I'll bet NE is laughing their asses off!
Well, it's not like he went 35-40 at Texas Tech U or anything but Gase did make the playoffs once. in the National Football League. He also set the all time record for points scored in a season as offensive coordinator. Again, in the National Football League. but yea, still nothin compared to this Texas Tech guy
He stayed out of Peyton Manning's way in Denver and made a name for himself, then went to the Bears where they had the 23rd ranked offense, moved along to Miami where he had the 24th ranked offense followed by the 25th ranked offense and then fired a year later after having the 31st ranked offense because he was a stubborn coach that players hated. But hey he coached in the pros so he must be better than Kingsbury!
