Ok so let’s just try to build a team full of choir boys over the next 12 seasons Yawn...... Go all in while Sam is cheap. Even if we lose we win......
I’m sorry to be the abrasive prick But the jets SHOULD make the playoffs in 2019 The rules are different I have no energy to explain this for the 500tth time but young legit QB’s with solid HC can and will easily make playoffs because the QB is cheap and they can sign a lot of FA Stop making me post this Thank you
I wouldn't say it's "most likely that the Jets aren't going to be a playoff team next season". After all, with a terrible CS, and league-bottom-rated personnel, they still could've finished at or near .500, and that would've had them in the conversation up until the end. Now change the CS, significantly improve the personnel, and add in a QB who has a season - a successful rookie season - under his belt, and the playoffs are certainly possible. Sure, they could hire the wrong HC, and Macc could continue to blow his FA signings and draft picks, but even with that, there will still be an overall improvement compared to the past year. I'm not guaranteeing playoffs, but I wouldn't rule it out either. And I don't know of anyone who said we could "sign Bell, DeMarcus Lawrence and 12 other FAs to fill out our roster". But when you look at the upcoming draft, FA, and the holes they need to fill, signing Bell and a stud pass rusher in FA allows them to focus on the OL, WR, and LB or CB, which is a doable shopping list. I know you abhor the idea of signing Bell, and I go back and forth over him too. I wouldn't be heartbroken if they did not sign him, but he if he worked out, he would probably add 3 wins by himself. Bottom line: If they had even a decent CS this year, they might've made the playoffs or at least been in the hunt until the end. That's not a bar I'm willing to settle for going forward, but it means they could easily exceed that level if they do things right (I know, a BIG if).
Marlon Mack has been one of the best RBs in the league the 2nd half of season, highly doubt they will be bringing in Bell.
Jets need superstar talent, especially on offense. Bell is likely to be the only superstar level talent available in FA and he just so happens to play a position of need. Seems like a no brainer to me.
Draft David Montgomery on the top of the 3rd round. I'll take Bell for the right price. Colts will no longer be suitors. Who else is out there?
There won’t be a huge market for bell. He’s going to get paid but I don’t see a bidding war. We have the cap and very little options on what to spend it on. Bell to the jets is a no brainer
Powell may be done. Guy's 30 and that injury was pretty bad. I remember reading at the time that it could be career ending.
You're obviously much more optimistic than I am about next year and the Jets' future. While I have hope, it is like a small flickering candle and the wind is starting to blow. Is it possible for the Jets to make the playoffs? Yes, I just don't think that they will. That's not how things happen for the Jets. You, like some other posters are ignoring the fact that we only have 30 players under contract for next season. Although the draft will add 7, that still leaves 16 players to either be re-signed or newly-signed FAs to fill out the roster. Even if we re-sign a bunch of our own younger, cheaper FAs, I still doubt that there will be room to sign them all, plus Lawrence and Bell. I don't think Bell will ever sign here, either. He is gonna use us to get more money from the Colts, the Raiders, or some other team. Even if he does sign, with not being hit for a year, how long will it take him to round into shape? Will he get injured again immediately, or will he be able to play 6-10 games before he's lost for the rest of the season to injury? Sorry, but imo he would not be a wise use of the Jets FA money. For the money used to sign him, we could likely sign 3-4 other FAs at positions of need and strengthen the overall team.
Even if they don't land him, if the Jets aren't aggressive for Bell they have failed themselves as an organization. I think Marlon Mack has proved to Indy that they do not need to sign Lev. Jets have the $ and should be a strong favorite. I would worry teams like Tampa Bay & Miami tho. That's if they have the money.
He makes me nervous, but his talent cannot be questioned. Hopefully we get a better OC as well that will allow Sam to pass under center and create some confusion on the defensive side of the ball.
I'm starting to warm up to Bell although I would still rather grab a back with one of our third rounders. Can we get 3-4 good years out of him? And will he be motivated for that time?
I'd rather have Hunt... cheaper/younger with less wear & tear... that other stuff will blow over.... I'd look into WR Evans as well
For the right price and contract, Bell is the no-brainer answer at RB. He can play all three downs and has more reliable hands than any receiver or back currently on the roster. It would be tough to design the correct contract. Luckily, one thing that Mac has done well is make smart contracts.
I think he comes back next year with a chip in his shoulder. Ready to prove that he is special after Connor having a year that made everyone wonder if it’s bell or the system. Darnold needs to get better under center if an oc is going to trust him. Bates was bad but Sam didn’t give him mush reason to trust him under center ( Nania had the breakdown on Twitter, it’s not pretty). We could have(should have) ran more out of the shotgun to help the offense.
Bell is gonna be the BPA in FA and happens to fill a huge need. Jets will have as good a chance as anyone as long as they’re willing to be the highest bidder. Btw this idea that Lawrence is gonna make it to FA is not very realistic, he will be back with Dallas next year.
