To be fair, when they said big game hunting (and a twitter reporter said tha not an official team statement) they were putting out feelers to harbaugh.

Pete Carmichael interviewed with the pack yesterday. I wonder if he could be in the second wave for the jets?

Yet not everybody has that mindset, Biggs. There are not many of us out there, but there are some people who are not the least bit interested in "turning their HC gig" into commercial success...there are people out there who aren't looking to make as much $$$$$$$$$$$ as humanly possible (i know i know, rare, but they are out there) and there are people out there who do not want to deal with the obvious downside of living in an urban area like NY. There ARE ambitious people in their prime who would want nothing whatsoever to do with living in a city like NYC, for a whole host of personal or ideological reasons.

The bold is spoken like a New Yorker. For anyone else from anywhere else in the country, few would agree with you. IMO NYC is no place to raise children. Take them on vacation trips, sure. Live there? No way.

Lots of nice suburbs though with good schools

I’m on the Jersey Shore (like an hour south of NYC) and it’s a good area all around

I totally agree. But NYC itself (including the 5 boroughs)? No.

NYC is without question the World class city in the USA. It’s not even debatable. Sure plenty of people aren’t up to the challenge. It’s a unique opportunity for a great talent and his family. Most people aren’t up to it.

I have a great life in Scottsdale that I can reproduce all over the country. The time I lived and worked in NYC can’t be duplicated in terms of opportunity, culture and professional challenge.

It’s a fabulous place to raise children. The best schools in the country are in nyc. Not to mention the cultural exposure and diversity. It’s also one of the safest cities in the country.

I love Scottsdale. I'm an old fuck who swims, hikes, bikes and can still drive. Being a kid in NYC we had great schools and I didn't have to wait for someone's mom to drive me anywhere. Walk to the station go to a Met game. Take the train into the city and go to a museum or take in a Yankee game. I spent half a summer at the Worlds fair. If you lived in LI you hope on the LIRR and it's a snap. Live in the city you get on a subway. Live in NJ bus to the subway. It's a kids dream. Out here it's helicopter moms and the kids are all on depression meds.

I disagree. NYC used to have the best schools. No more. I've seen the rankings, and NYC schools have dropped precipitously. It does have wonderful cultural exposure and diversity, but sadly, many people don't consider that. I also disagree that it's one of the safest cities in the country. Safest BIG cities, yes, safest cities, no. If I was a parent there's no way I'd let my teenage kids go out on their own exploring the city.

Again, you're speaking from a biased viewpoint. If you had grown up anywhere else in the country that wasn't a big city, you'd understand what I'm talking about.

The really dirty thing is that fast food businesses (among other minimum wage level employers) are using non-compete clauses to prevent employees from going to other fast food places to earn a dollar or so more an hour. What is the "top secret" information they wish to prevent from being leaked - how to flip a burger quicker?

Employees at ALL levels and industries are being screwed by the business-friendly environment imposed ever since Reagan fired the Air Traffic Controllers.

    End of political rant.

Exactly! If he thought that there was a possibility of an NFL job, he shouldn't have accepted the job at USC. Since he accepted the job, he should have turned down any interview requests from the NFL for at least a year. It sounds like to me that he needs an ego and character check. I don't care how innovative or creative he is. I want no part of him for the Jets.

With a franchise this inept it is. Even if McCarthy asked for a ridiculous amount of control, we should have given it to him. What in our recent history would lead anyone to think that ownership should maintain any sort of control at the expense of a Super Bowl winning coach?

I agree. As much as I'd love for John Harbaugh to be the Jets' next HC, that's too steep a price. We can't afford it.

I don't want to single you out in particular, but I quoted your post to ask if we could stop the arguing about NYC. Do it in another thread. Whoever the coach is, he is probably going to live in Morristown or Summit. Let's talking about coaching please, not about real estate or lifestyle.
