There's no need for them to rush. I get that the sooner they get him hired, the sooner he can start putting his staff together, and getting organized, but what if the Jets rush to hire him, and it turns out that all the negative stuff said about him is true? What if Todd Monken was really interested in the Jets' job, but because they hired McCarthy, he went to GB and becomes a HOF HC? Also, what if Mike Tomlin or John Harbaugh become available after McCarthy is hired? While the latter isn't likely to happen, I'd rather the Jets interview Monken first, pick his brain, and since they're supposedly really interested in Kris Richard and Matt Rhule, that they interview them as well, so that they will have interviewed all the candidates that they were interested in and would be choosing based on knowledge gained from all the interviews, rather than just half of them. I'd rather that they make sure that McCarthy is the guy they want, not just sign him because they're afraid they'll lose him if they ask him to wait a week. Patience, grasshopper!
They can pick Monken's brain all they want, but at the end of the day, he's just an offensive version of what we've been hiring over and over again since Parcells. I'd be willing to wait if there was any inking that John Harbaugh would become available, although between the two, I think I'd still want McCarthy, but I'd certainly want to talk to Harbaugh. I want absolutely NOTHING to do with Tomlin coming here. There just seems to be endless drama in that locker room, not something that we need with a young team that is in the process of a complete rebuild.
I disagree with you about Monken. He has HC experience, NFL experience, has a very creative mind, and is a known as a leader. We haven't hired anyone like that.

I just see McCarthy as someone that will only lead us to mediocrity. He is known to be awful with clock management and it seemed like his offenses had become stale & bland in recent seasons (which is saying something with one of the best QBs in history.) Also going through some different articles on him (like the one below) – they don't seem to be giving glowing recommendations. By Thursday Jan 10th I say we name our new HC That gives them 4 working days to see if they still want a Monken Rhule or Richard ...wait for Harbaughs ? I dunno By 4 PM tomorrow after the Ravens game there's a chance John becomes available...then this is an X factor if Baltimore lets him go (?) So then who do you want JH or MM??? Hopefully the Jets were asking McCarthys plan to modernize his offense. If they were satisfied with the answer to that question and everything else checks out then let’s roll. I don’t think they should rush it though. There is certainly an advantage to being first hired but they likely still have time to speak with the others they have some interest in.
Whatever McCarthy's clock issues are (I've never personally seen him be stupid with the game clock) there is no chance they're as bad as Bowles
