I would love to see him become the OC for the Jets, but as for being best for him, IDK. Becoming a HC, even if he fails, isn't a bad career move.
Its fine for them to both report to the owner but keep in mind our owner has yet to prove he even has a clue. Im saying any reputable guy who has been a coach before will be beyond hesitant to take this job knowing that the GM not only has not drafted great or even good but that he might be gone in a year. I will be shocked if a McCarthy or any of the other previous HC out there take this job. We are going to hire a Coordinator or a college coach,,,time will tell won't it IMO opinion you fire Bowles and Mac and start fresh thats what I would have done because to me it makes the most sense as this mess was as much on Mac as it was Bowles.Time will tell how this plays out
I disagree. IMO the job with the Cardinals isn't very appealing. It will be very hard to turn that team into a winner. If he goes there, lasts 3-4 years and has the same kind of record that he did at Texas Tech, he may never get another shot at being a HC in the NFL. IMO since I don't think he's ready to be a HC in the NFL, it's better to get some NFL coaching experience on his resume. Learn more about the league, get to know other coaches/make contacts, refine his coaching philosophy somewhere where he can succeed as a coordinator, and then he might have his pick of several jobs.
I like you guys, Brook, and I like this message board. Besides, whether or not the Bears win tomorrow, or win next week or even win the Super Bowl isn't really something I would get too excited about. I guess I view things different than a lot of people. I don't really see the point in going crazy if your team wins a Super Bowl. I mean, the players and coaches and staff, I can understand going crazy, because they get rings to commemorate something they achieved together, but as a fan? As a fan, the "shelf life" on a title is basically 1 year...and that's it. As soon as a new champion is crowned, no one is going to care that the mediocre Eagles and their trash fanbase actually lucked into a title last year. Stale news. Think about it...how many people could name off the top of their head, without even having to take a second to think about it who won the game 4 years ago...or 3 years ago. The ONLY exception to this rule, is if you are fortunate enough to be a fan of a team that ranks as one of, if not THE greatest/most dominant team in the history of the NFL. Then, as a fan, that is something you can celebrate forever, because you are a fan of a team that will NEVER be forgotten and that is immortal...and as a fan of such a team, you can revel in the historic, legendary, almost mythical, eternal accomplishment of that team. Or put another way...not many people could name, without having to think about it, who won the Super Bowl 3-4 years ago. But every true football fan knows who won the Super Bowl after the 1985 Regular season. or put one final way...every single season produces a champion...there have been a lot of super bowl champions at this point....they come and go...and most are largely forgotten as time passes by. But a team like the 1985 Bears lives forever, because even 34 years after the fact, award-winning documentaries, best-selling books, television programs, etc. are still being dedicated to their accomplishment. To a certain extent, you could also say something at least similar about Namath and the '69 Jets, so at least you guys have that going for you. of course my guy, Buddy, was instrumental to the championship success of BOTH of those teams, haha!
And I wouldn’t blame him at all if he got bought out or he resigned, how can’t USC block one of their OCs from getting a clear cut promotion?
Monken’s my 1a and with quotes like that it’s like love at first sight. I hope they don’t hire anyone before interviewing this guy.
There is a difference between having a successful track record, and head coaching experience. HUGE difference. Rich Kotite had experience. Doubt anyone in the NFL was throwing his name out there when looking for head coaches.
Only issue for me with this type of hire (Monken, Kingsbury etc) is that the league has done this all before. This new offensive explosion reminds me a lot of the Run and Shoot days. That said, defenses eventually figure it out. With our luck, we get one of these coaches when the league figures it out. That's the scary part for me.
Not only is it not a clear cut promotion, it’s not a promotion at all. USC has no association with the NFL. Would it be a better higher paying gig for him? Clearly. But it’s not a “promotion”. Having said that, if his buyout is minimal and he doesn’t have a non-compete with the NFL, he’d be an idiot not to opt out.
He can simply resign from USC and interview freely with NFL teams. Doing so puts him at risk of unemployment though. USC would receive no compensation should he be hired by an NFL team as a HC or Coordinator.
It's an old rule that the league has decided to suddenly enforce again. Trying to limit the pool to candidates on the NFL career advisory committees recommended list.
Every coaching vacancy this year is tied to a sitting GM. In the Jets case , the Coaching hire would not be tied to that GM. It's actually a positive .
What's the deal with this Kris Richard? Fox is putting him on camera a lot during the playoff game. He was the Seahawks DC from 2015-2017 he's now the Cowboys defensive backs coach. So he got fired from Seattle? Accepted a lesser coaching position in Dallas why is he a candidate for the Jets HC job? LOL Fox is showing him more than the real Dallas DC in this game. Who is the Dallas DC?
Poor choice of words, it’s not a promotion per se, but he gets to become a HC in the NFL which is a better gig than an OC at USC.
