I'll bet Monken gets the GB job, Rodgers goes on a tear the next 3 years, and the Packers win the next 3 SBs.

Seems like every candidate is either a retread or "not ready"/"not qualified". Monken is probably the only guy who

    1. Has NFL OC experience
    2. Has head coach experience (in college)
    3. Isn't a fired head coach

Seems like he checks the most boxes as far as what fans are looking for. Would be my #1 choice.

  3. What difference would it make to the new coach though if he doesnt report to him? If hes gone in 2 years it means he isnt getting said coach enough good players & will be the fall guy if things dont go well. Then the coach likely has a say in the new GM bc theres nobody else for the Johnson’s to turn to. If anything it provides alittle bit of a short term safety net bc Mac is already on thin ice

Yea, wouldn’t take the 3 overall though. Maybe a 3rd this year and 2nd next?

KURT because IF Mac is shit canned in a year or 2 the NEW GM will want to hire his own coach. Its the definition of insanity the Jets never learn they have been down this road this is why if I owned the Jets I would have fired Mac also.

  6. Not necessarily my friend. How many of the 8 teams fired their GM along w their HC this offseason? Not one. The jets are not alone in this & any candidate will have to accept this across the board.Same as GM candidates Moving forward.

Front offices are becomming more specialized/collaborative in nature. Hence why many teams not just the jets are moving to both the HC & GM being seperate entities who both report to the owner. Like it or not HCs/GMs are no longer tied to the hip. Candidates know this & so do their agents.

I've said it before and it doesn't get mentioned a lot, but NE managed to really screw us AGAIN! Had that asshole McDaniels taken the job he agreed to in Indy, Reich probably stays on with Philly last year (I don't believe at the time there were any more vacancies he was seriously being considered for at the time....in fact I think all vacancies were filled) many on this board really thought Reich would have been a great fit here and there is a solid chance he would be a to candidate for us this offseason.

With that said, I am all in on McCarthy

According to one of my USC friends, Kliff wanted to only interview for the Jets job, and it was more for experience. Looks like USC nixed the interview when the Cards as well came calling...was scared of losing KK

Monken is my #2, but I think he's going to get hired in Green Bay. It seems like their type of guy. With quotes like this, it would at least be fun to watch:

“I like having fun,” Monken said at his introductory presser, via the Tampa Tribune. “I don’t know why it has to feel like such drudgery all the time.
“Who needs more 5-yard plays? How can we be explosive? That’s what the game is about, man. People like big plays. I like big plays.” -Todd Monken

Very interesting - I wonder if he would take an OC position in the NFL if he couldn't get a Head Coach role? It would be the obvious move.

In general, I agree with you, but as someone pointed out to me, if that new HC (McCarthy) has the team playing really well, why would the new GM want to make a change? I think it's a valid point. Sure, in most situations where the GM is responsible for the performance of the HC, he'd want to hire is own for his own job security, but in a situation where he has no responsibility for the performance of the HC, why rock the boat and go through the process when you already have a successful HC?

I think he likely would, but I would be think he'd be a leading candidate for Arizona's HC job
