You've summed up my fears exactly.

Frankly I would love the next great whiz kid, but the reality is that with CJ and Macc being the deciders, the odds of hitting on this hire are astronomically against.

In McCarthy's case I think it's a positive sign that he's only considering two places (as far as we know). To me that says he WILL have the fire and commitment because he wants to work with one of these teams, and if he doesn't get offered, well then he'll sit at home and collect his GB severance. I think he also wants to show the Packers - and maybe even more so, Rodgers - that HE wasn't the problem there.

My hope is that they hire McCarthy and he/they hire a "whiz kid" as the QBC or OC to groom behind him.

The Jets need to hearken back to 1963 here. Who did they bring in to stabilize and build up this organization for its only fruitful run? It wasn't a wayferer wearing coach Ryan Gosling Kingsbury, it wasn't a rah rah empty cheerleader Bieniemy type, it wasn't some promising coordinator that we think will do well until the reigns are handed to him and he promptly throws up all over himself (Bowles...and many others)

They hired boring old Weeb Ewbank. But what could Ewbank (and McCarthy) do? They have experience building staffs, establishing discipline, accountability, promptness. Instilling a winning culture. Understanding how to communicate and get the best out of different players from different backgrounds. Preparation, execution, and making sure that outright quitting (as it happened far too often under Bowles) is absolutely never tolerated.

And we don't think he can do it, we know he can because he's done it before for long stretches. And he's cultivated and developed great talent, even when that talent is a moody diva like Rodgers. I hate to agree with Francesa but he's right when he made this point the other day. Rodgers is brilliant but he's very very difficult. And it takes a very imaginative, dedicated, creative coach to go out there and challenge a Rodgers every day and keep things stable there. Yes it fell apart this year, but they got one heck of a run out of it

Heck they would've won a 2nd Super Bowl if that idiot fielded a damn onside kick. GB did get their Lombardi Trophy, but let's be fair they have had a lot of bad luck too in the playoffs

If we hire McCarthy, I sure hope that you're right about that desire to show the Packers/Rodgers that HE wasn't the problem there, but I believe that he was. I will be just as nervous if he is the hire as I will be if it's Monken or Rhule, but at least I might give those three a chance. Kingsbury shouldn't even be in the discussion. He's only been a HC at one college and was a miserable failure there. I'm not even convinced that he's such a QB developer/guru. If he's the new HC or if it's Adam Gase, Richard, Bieniemy, Zac Taylor or anyone else of that ilk, it's sayonara.

I like what I've read about Rhule, but I think he needs to finish turning Baylor around and then maybe become an OC in the NFL, before getting a HC gig in the NFL. He sounds like he has a lot of potential, but doesn't have enough experience.

Whichever guy that can install a college style offense and score 40+ a game.

    That’s the one I want.

I understand what you're saying. We really don't know what went on in GB behind closed doors, but we have seen more than a few signs that Aaron Rodgers is becoming a difficult diva. Maybe he always was

Love seeing Monken in 2nd place at least! McCarthy would be semi safe, but boring. Monkens more of a high risk, way higher upside choice.

I think Bieniemy is underrated here. Don’t care that he didn’t call plays ( even though he may be calling more than you think, wasn’t known until after the season that Pedersen was calling 2nd half plays for most of that last year.) Reid’s track record of developing successful coaches is too difficult to ignore.

The other similarity is Weeb let Namath call his own plays and draw plays on the infield dirt. Very similar to the O that good old Mike McCarthy ran in Green Bay.

While I'm not that excited about McCarthy, out of that list I think he's probably the safest & will provided the most stability..... which is really what the JETS need. Look at the run of 1st timers they've run through, that briefly burned bright after having a good short term roster, only to never be seen again....

The deciding factor should be their ability to forge a solid coaching staff too

Beware of the dark horse M. Rhule coming out of nowhere, and I'm still hoping for a top secret interview with Jim Harbaugh where we offer him the keys to NY/NJ.

I think John is a better chance than jim.
I have to check out more on rhule. That top 3 is my personal preference. Also Todd Monken’s brother is doing good things at West Point

It'll take draft picks for Jon, that's my biggest knock.

If McCarthy Caldwell Gase and Bieniemy are our top 4 choices it’s hard to complain if we get one of them

  17. I just hope Mccarthy’s time away re energized him & that hes ready to attack some of his shortcomings that critics have mentioned.Other than that I think hes a hellluva coach

USC blocking interviews from happening with Kingsbury. Lame. Scratch him off.

Looking like it's McCarthy or bust.

I wasn't in favor of Kingsbury becoming the next HC anyway. OC, maybe, but there are other options.
