He is going to get a chance to speak with Darnold as well. All things being equal, two good young QBs with a lot of potential, I believe that Darnolds demeanor will have a big influence on whether Mcarthy takes this job over Cleveland.
I wouldn’t be so sure he’s going to talk to Darnold. The Jets are interviewing over a half a dozen candidates and I doubt they’re going to make him come in to meet all of the potential coaches. Who knows where he even is? He could’ve gone back to SoCal for the offseason for all we know.
Hopefully McCarthy chooses Cleveland because the guy is such a boring hire. His offense is about a decade behind the times. The next time he schemes a wr open will be the first. And he’s just as conservative and terrible at game mgmt as Bowles. I really wonder if people supporting him have ever watched a Packers game or they’re just like wow he has a great record.

I thought that was part of the plan that CJ and Macc had? He said he would get a chance to talk to Darnold but not ask Darnolds opinion on who they hire. I have to find that article.
To be fair this was 2015, when they were actually a solid team. But yeah Belichick praises every team he’s facing.
I don't want the Jets to hire any head coach who can fold his hands and rest them on his belly. It shows a lack of personal discipline.
While I agree with you that he might not be around for every interview, if the Jets have a top 3 list of possible HC, he will be around for those interviews. Here is the quote from Mac under the interview “Mac feels Jets have a good plan in place”. Darnold, the third overall selection in last year's draft who showed great promise in 13 starts in his just-completed rookie season, figures prominently in the new hire. The GM said his QB won't be making the decision on the coach, but on the other hand ... "I would think, given the opportunity, I would like the potential head coaches that come through here to have a chance to spend a little time with him just so they get a feel for Sam," he said. "We definitely want to make sure they have a plan in place to develop our young quarterback."
Interesting, I wouldn’t have expected him to be there. Also means that any interview the FO goes on the road for (Richard/Rhule etc) won’t get the same opportunity, unless they’re going to drag Sam to Texas...
Biggs once again with an outstanding post. Amazing how, if McCarthy is such an all-time brilliant coach that Belichick "sincerely" considers him to be one of the most difficult coaches he has ever gone up against....that this brilliant coach couldn't get to more than one Super Bowl with Aaron Rodgers in his prime, especially in what, at times, was a pretty watered down NFC. Rodgers would also probably disagree regarding how brilliant McCarthy is a coach, and while he (Rodgers) is undoubtedly an arrogant, disingenuous jerk (then again so is Belichick, lol), I would be inclined to put more stock in his opinion of McCarthy as a coach than Belichick's, for the reasons concisely cited above by Biggs.
Maybe he wasn't asked about other coaches. Or, if he had been, maybe it would have gone down something like this: Reporter to BB: What do you think about Coach X (insert name of any coach in universe)? BB to self: Retrieve stock answer from brain file. BB to Reporter: I think Coach X is one of the best coaches I've ever gone against.
With the Packers until this most recent thing with Rogers you never heard of any infighting, bickering or diva behavior for over a decade. He has a system and IMO would be able to put together the best staff around him that could breath new life into his system. You don't think he hears all the talk about his vanilla offense? He walks in the door with a ring and a ton of playoff experience garnering respect along with developing IMO the best QB of all time. He brings respectability. That will help recruit FA. New unis, proven HC, stud QB, sign me up.
I've just seen Mike McCarthy at Dave & Busters in the Woodbridge Center. He looked happy and was wearing Todd Bowles' Gotham City sweatshirt.
