Rodgers probably doesn't play like a jackass and throw 3 INTs against the Bills in the finale. I would same that year, we probably get into the playoffs with Rodgers. Do you think Rodgers would've still been Rodgers if he were drafted by Mac and Bowles and not Ted and McCarthy?
No of course not. Which is why I'm not completely against a McCarthy hire. It's just very far from my preference. But I think the comparison here is the records (which pro-McCarthy folks bring up a ton), not the actual accomplishments. That's how I took the Bowles/McCarthy comparison: the fact that when they have good players, they win... when they don't, they don't.
This is not a viable argument for or against any candidate. Every single guy being interviewed will want to bring in his own staff and part of his being hired will be dependent on who it is that he has lined up and why.
I hear ya, I don't know many teams win w/out good players or talented one per say. You gotta have talent, but you have to also coach them up. Talent isn't enough as evident by the Jacksonville Jaguars. I mean McCarthy wasn't my #1 guy either, my #1 guy doesn't even want to interview for the Jets lol ... McCarthy isn't the only coach I want, but for the sake of Darnold and some offensive players he's up there.
Somebody did that? Who? And what success has that "expert" had at any level of the game to be considered a valuable voice in selecting a new coach? What do you know about those 15 route combos? Are they consistently used the same way, without variation everywhere on the field with the same personnel or are they used by different players, in different situations with a multitude of twists. There are probably less than 15 toppings that normally go on pizza but different combinations can get you thousands of unique choices.
For sure we don't know who our new coach will be. Nor would I ever presume to know that McCarthy is the right answer. But I find it comical that the media in general, and a shit load of bloggers quoted here I never heard of before, are quick to point out what is wrong with him, or Caldwell, or Gase, or you name it, without actually providing any sort alternative solution. So if we go newbie, they will probably point out how stupid that was for an organization like the Jets that needs veteran structure. So in short, is hard to take most of the media crap seriously, but sure makes me wonder if our selection process is healthy enough to know the pluses and minuses of each, and the risk we are willing to take. So far I have not seen one potential candidate mentioned that has met at least consensus and acceptance, unless is someone like Harbaugh, or Payton, or Arian, none of which are remotely available and will probably not be any time soon. PS Call me bitter about our last coach , but anyone in the media that states McCarthy is an Offensive version of Bowles needs to be judged with extreme care.
To be fair, the people criticizing McCarthy are the ones saying the Jets need to find the hotshot youngster that will give the organization a boost. No one is really playing both sides of the fence.
I ca Fair enough. I guess my contention is he is only as good as the team he's coaching, so with a dream team WR corp and QB #1/32 he could get exactly what is expected out of those teams. Now that Jordy is gone, Cobb isn't the same, but Adams has improved 10 fold, McCarthy is a 6 win coach. "What have you done lately?" For McCarthy it's win 6 games with QB #1/32 Todd Munken on a 5-11 team managed to get Ryan Fitzpatrick to became the first QB in NFL history to pass for more than 400 yards in three consecutive games. Eric Bieniemy just OC'ed a 2nd year QB with 1 previous start to MVP of the league and had the most prolific offense in football.
dude just wants "clicks." otherwise why would you say something that stupid? I also think its funny that he said its "wild that anyone would want him here"... It's wild to want a good NFL Head Coach for once? consider me feral lol
Am I the only one who does not care a single iota what Daniel Essien and Christopher Nimbley think about any of the coaching candidates? Simply because these guys may get twenty bucks or so for writing an essay on some obscure website does nothing to convince me that their opinion is any more informed or valuable than my own, particularly when they lead with the preposterous idea that a coach will be hired based on how much criticism any of the choices would bring upon the team rather than the ability of the coach to do the job successfully.
For what it's worth, Greg Jennings said on Colin Cowherd (I know, I know) that he loves McCarthy for HC of the Jets. Jennings thought that MM would be great at grooming Darnold. He did have an issue with Mike's play-calling at times, but thought the positive would outweigh the negatives.
I’m thinking Rhule as HC, Kingsbury at OC and an experienced defensive mind at DC (easier said than done). And Kingsbury probably wouldn’t leave college for an OC job.
Have your guesses in. I will merge this with McCarthy thread sometime tomorrow. For now, have some fun.
