I had not heard that the bone-on-bone condition was proven false. Thanks for the correction. That would certainly ease some of my concerns. The recovery time for a torn ACL may be 6-9 months, but I think I remember reading a couple of posters on here who are doctors saying that it takes a year or more for someone to fully recover, trust the knee and get back close to where they were before.

    Re-sign the following:
    QB- Webb
    RB- Henderson
    WR- Roberts + Burnett
    T- Qvale
    G- Braden+ Dozier
    C- Harrison
    DE- Anderson+ Kaufusi
    OLB- Copeland + Luvu
    ILB- Hewitt
    CB- Clairborne + Roberts
    S- Middleton
    K- Myers

After that, our needs as follows:
RB- Stud... getting Bell enables us to cut Crowell and roll with Bell,McGuire,Cannon,Henderson. I'd put Cannon on PS.
WR- #1 guy.. Enunwa is REALLY a #3 and is REALLY best suited in the slot. Anderson isn't a #1, can be a real good #2, at times. Peake is under contract for depth.
OLB- Stud.. Jenkins stepped up with sacks, not saying the rest of his game did though. I'm OKAY with Copeland and Luvu as depth. Solid guys.
C- Starter... Move Long at Guard where he is OK. Harrison can be signed as our backup, but we need a new starter
T- Draft kid to develop. I'm ok rolling with Beachum and Shell and Qvale as swing. They are capable starters.
G- Draft kid to develop. Shakiest position on the team beyond C(see above) WR because guys aren't signed there. This is based on talent.

Draft is loaded with DL talent. I would only draft the Bama-Williams guy at #3, beyond that, I would LOVE to trade back 10+ spots and acquire multiple picks to use on WR-T-G-CB

Bad enough the OL starters are below average - the unit has no depth either. Brent Qvale is terrible.

Spencer Long at center is horrible. . Spencer Long at guard is horrible.

    Maccag's negligence has caught up.

FA is not the place to get superstars. That's what the draft is for. Teams need their 3 or 4 superstars to be home grown and playing on a team friendly contract for 4 or 5 years (half their career). The team that should be paying those monster 2nd or 3rd contracts is the team the player just played 4-5 years for free for.

FA is for rounding out the rest of your 53 man roster. Look at that great kick returning Mac got us. Best in the NFL and no one heard of him before this season (and he's 45 years old!). Or that lanky white defensive lineman (Anderson?) who played better than Leonard Williams. I know Anderson was gotten in trade with the Colts for a 2025 10th round draft pick, but he's an example of the type of player that's available in FA.

FA is the time to bring in players you never heard of that end up playing their positions really really good.

FA is not a place to make up for lost time due to bad drafts. You will go absolutely broke paying beyond top dollar for players in the 2nd half of their careers. Or you get some cancer player that despite their immense talents, their home team can't stand to have them in the locker room.

Stick to the draft for your superstars.

Look to FA for those 15-20 nameless work horses that win games.

Not a huge deal, but I would not resign anyone on the front seven UNTIL the jets know WHO their defensive coordinator is, and whether the jets will play a 4-3 or 3-4 defense. The Colts traded Henry Anderson to the jets because they saw him as a poor fit in their new 4-3 defense. The 3-4 defensive and the 4-3 defense requires some difference in the type of players. It would just like MacCagnan and the jets to sign/resign a boatload of 3-4 defensive players and then hire a coach/D coordinator who will play a 4-3.

Great post. OMG I could not believe Mike McIdiot brought Dakota Dozier back for a FIFTH year in 2018 after he sat on the bench from 2014-2017. If a guy cannot crack the starting lineup after 4 years, couldn't they find anyone else who might pretend to compete for a starting job last year????? A good team tries to promote a little competition for a position, not satisfied with guys who they know will never start.

Lots of current players return to full participation in that time frame Free agency starts mid March so teams can get a very accurate picture of where he is at in his recovery and get an accurate evaluation of his health. He's not going to get a big contract, or a long guaranteed deal. Can't possibly sign the top names at each position, and he's an excellent risk/vs reward option. Much like Bridgewater last off-season. Curious what the MDs on the board felt about Teddy.

For the most part I agree with you, but when you have so many big holes like the Jets, and a lot of cap space, IF YOU'RE prudent you can quickly upgrade, coupled with your draft picks. IMO they should try to get their stud pass rusher in FA so they can use their #1 on a LT which will be scarce in the draft.

Getting a 'stud pass rusher' in FA would be awesome! Except it never, ever happens. I honestly can't think of a single 'stud pass rusher' picked up in FA. And if I could, he'd probably be close to 30 and demanding $15-$20 mil per year.

'Stud pass rusher', star LT, and FQB are 3 positions teams really need to get from the draft. They're talented, young, cheap, and change the team. Unlike Cousins, for example.

With Gase here how about Cameron Wake for a year or two?

I think he's still got some gas left in the tank.

Reggie White, and he cost $17 million for a four-year contract. Of course, it was 25 years ago, but that's a minor detail ...

There are quite a few oustanding pass rushers in this yeary free agency, above them all of course Jadeveon Clowney and DeMarcus Lawrence. Chances are both get franchise tagged and/or signed to a long term contract. But if one of them somehow hits the market, they would absolutely be worth an overpay to get them here.

Even after Clowney and Lawrence there are some players who could perfectly fit our needs.
Frank Clark had 13 sacks with the Seahawks this season and is also still young (26 at the beginning of the season); his potential is sky-high.
Trey Flowers may very well be the most important player on New England's defense, so signing him in free agency would also substantially weaken them. He hasn't had the most outstanding sack numbers (7.5, 6.5 and 7 the last three seasons) but I'm convinced he is one of the most underrated players in the league.

Za'Darius Smith had 8.5 sacks in a part-time role with the Ravens this season. He is also still young (26) and could very well break into double-digit sacks the next season.
Dee Ford is two years older than the above players (28 by the start of the season) but has two double digit sack season already in his resumee (13 this past season and 10 in 2016).

Beyond that I would also try to do everything to strengthen our OL. Trent Brown at LT, Daryl Williams at RT or Mitch Morse at C would be my preffered options.

I've wanted Bell for the last couple months, now I just think he would want too much to come here and clash w/the coach.

Malcontent; Old; and often injured. Three guys that would help. If Tannebaum was our gm this would be who we get. Gase did work under Tannebaum so might be the case anyway but none of them move the needle for me. Maybe Bell but I see a Santonio Holmes type situation playing out with Bell and Brown. If Pittsburgh jettisons you there are problems.

Well now that we’ve hired a coach that fights with players, my wish list is narrow down to “anyone that will take our money“ because we can’t be selective.
