Lets play the Jets bust draft pick game ...everyone say one name each until we run out of names Devin Smith
Think #3 hinges on if they land DeMarcus Lawrence. If they land Lawrence, it’s OT or trade down. If they don’t land Lawrence then I think you have to look at a rusher here. Ferrell reminds me a lot of Garrett. We’ll see how this shakes out.
We won't have an opportunity to trade down. With no stellar QB picks in this class it's unlikely. I know we want it every year, it's just not realistic this year. At 3, I'd take Joey Bosa (DE) Jonah Williams (OT) Greedy Williams (CB) N'Keal Harry (WR) Clellin Ferrell (DE)
Bosa and Williams are obvious choices. No thanks to any Def pick that isn't an Edge or Quinnen. Ferrell is a tailor-made 4-3 DE not a 3-4 OLB so unless we change Def fronts Ferrell would be Coples 2.0 for us. And HUGEEEEEEEEE no to Harry. Looks stiff and slow with the ball. Give me Metcalf if we're going WR round 1, which I hope we don't. Haskins is going to go top 3 after his Bowl performance. Not exactly deserving of it IMO but he's going to be the guy this year since Herbert isn't coming out. Question is who trades up with whom. I have a feeling it's going to be Jax with SF, which means if Quinnen or Jonah go 1st then we get Bosa. My list in order at 3: Bosa Allen Jonah Quinnen or trade down w/ GB for both 2019 1st's and 2019 3rd. Then grab (hopefully) Greg Little at 12 and someone like Jachai Polite, Brian Burns, Cody Ford, David Edwards, Byron Murphy or DK Metcalf in the late 20's.
Only thing I disagree with is Haskins comment. He has been producing at this level all year not just the Bowl game, I believe the stigma of past Ohio state QBs is hanging over him like a dark cloud. He has been better than Mitchell Trubisky all year in his first year. If he decides to go to NFL he will need to sit a year but he will be a good QB.
+1, everyone wants to trade down, as I've said before..."much easier said than done" There is no OT, or playmaker worthy of the top 3 spot. I can't believe some people in this thread want to reach for an OT at #3.......crazy!! I agree we need OLine help, it's too bad this draft doesn't have top tier talent. College football teams (offense) are not developing O-Linemen for the NFL. A pass rusher will be the pick at #3.
It might be unfortunate but I don't know that I agree its "crazy". They didn't give us the 7th pick.... they gave us the 3rd pick and it is what it is. The task at hand is to get whatever guy is going to help this particular Jets team the most and this particular Jets team is (or at least I assume we are) currently 100% invested all our hopes and dreams on Sam Darnold developing into an NFL star QB who is going to lead us to deep playoff runs. The most important thing right now is to get him whatever help you possibly can. And to NOT do the Andrew Luck move where you have an obvious stud QB and then let him get butchered onto the operating table because you never ever get him and help or protection while your franchise dwadles away years and years of wasted time. I guess its a tough call and Mel Kiper might sneer a little bit (maybe not) but I think we should keep focused on the mission here. Use the free agent $$$ to get some pass rushing and use the draft pick to help Sam.
Man I hope that’s not how Mac thinks. Free agency should have nothing to do with your draft. That’s how you end up with vlad ducasse and Stephen hill
A GM shouldn't reach for a player because he fills a need, but need shouldn't be discounted when drafting. Let's say the Jets sign Lawrence and have a slightly higher grade on an Edge than an OL. That's where you take need into consideration IMO.
The grade between Allen/bosa and Jonah Williams will be more than slight. The best way to stick a talented team is to fill out your roster in free agency and than add the best talent you can in the draft, regardless of position. With the caveats that qbs go early so grades don’t matter when you need one and if you want to shotgun a position you feel is particularly thin you lean that way in the 6-7 rounds when the grades are closer. Of course this approach only works when you know how to draft good players.
That would be awesome, but rather than getting a 2020 2nd round pick I almost would rather getting a 3rd and 5th round pick this year.
