He didn't do well this year's game. But it was more of Seahawks were getting hot at the right time. They respect him in a sense that his overall history is positive even though some of his calls in the game were questionable.

So what is your story? You moved to Seattle from New York metro area or loved Jets afar? :)

That pretty much means hiring a 1st time HC. Which feels like straight up gambling. I don't mind gambling $$$ that's pretty easy to earn more of.

But a franchise QB? That's huge stakes to put at risk.

What was that scary stat of no former super bowl winning coach has gone onto win it with another team, well apart from Weeb winning the NFL then the SB with us.

Surely it must be off putting when you look at McCarthy for the job, no?

I moved here from NY (Queens) 13 years ago. My son was 2 years old, when we moved. And as he was growing up, he had a chance to become a Seahawks fan, but he chose to become a Jets fan - because of me (I didn't encourage him). Despite my warning against it, he was stubborn. Now he is a suffering Jets fan as I am. SMH.

Totally agree. Remember just getting to the playoffs is a feat in itself. If McCarthy gets us to the playoffs as much as he did green bay, I will be ecstatic, then I will worry about SB

Unless you're Belichick winning a SB is a rare event. Plus SB winning coaches rarely change teams. So the stat isn't concerning.

That is a complete and utter happenstance.

    It has no causation.

Winning a SB with one team does not disable your ability to win with another team.

    It's never happened...until it does.

It's like saying good QBs don't come out of USC because one never did.

I was going to add that--there aren't all that many SB winning QBs and even less of them hit the street in their prime.

A fair comment but if it is rare do you think he can then go onto be Super Bowl winner again, he maybe just went stale at Green Bay, it happens if you are at a team for a long time, shame it didn't happen to bellyache

getting into the playoffs is a lot less of a feat when you have Favre then Rodgers as your QBs - again - he may be a good coach and a good fit for us but his record for me (in the words of the great philosopher Shania Twain) "don't impress me much" - any half decent coach could have done at least as well with those QBs - still even a half decent coach would be an improvement so its not all bad

I agree, but to get to multiple SB wins, you need to win the first one. If McCarthy got them that far, I'd be happy with that, and then they can bring in the next guy.

It is called a stat, nobody has managed it in all the time it has been an event, I didn't say it was impossible or disable somebody from managing it, so when it does happen the stat will cease to exist but currently nobody has managed it.

If you follow the horses then betting has a lot of stat based patterns, ie a horse may not have won a major race at a certain age over 50 years despite 1000 of them trying to do so over time, until one does a lot of gamblers will avoid that age bracket as the stat is against it happening, like the super bowl, there is nothing stopping a horse of that age winning the race but the stat will remain at the forefront until it is broken.

As for your example, if one hasn't then the stat and sentence is true until one does.

Higher floor, lower ceiling, to me. These re-tread options aren't going to become the next Landry, Lombardi, Shula, etc.

I'd be more willing to gamble on some "hot shot" if we had some success recently, say a couple of playoff appearances in the past 8 years. But how about we get to that point at least, before we gamble - once again! - on some "cant miss", well respected coordinator or college guy?

You asked if the “stat” concerned anyone.

It’s of zero concern because the “stat” doesn’t have any effect on the future.

Besides I don’t bet on horses.

Maybe he will be the next Andy Reid. Andy went stale in philly & went on to be a successful coach.

How many times has Pete Carroll won the SB with Wilson and a great sea hawks team. You could argue that Pete had better team than Mccarthy and he won....I believe 1 SB. Does that make him unsuccessful.
