To add: 1 super bowl win, 3 NFC championship losses in 13 seasons with Brett Favre for 2 seasons and Aaron Rodgers for 11 seasons. I find that to be a pretty awful record.

Mike McCarthy in the AFC with Sam Darnold, would be lethal. Especially with Brady and Belicheck soon to be out of the picture

I understand your concerns with McCarthy running too vanilla of an offense. I think that though his offenses have been vanilla, they have been effective and that this will be a great thing for developing Darnold. Also when our offenses are traditional but our personnel are good, we seem to have more success against the scheme defenses of the Pats. Traditional offense make the players beat each other rather than the coaches. In this way we can somewhat neutralize Belichek's brilliance as in the 2010 playoff game we beat them in. I know we don't have great players right now, but I think McCarthy and Mac working together can fill out a roster effectively and the Pats in terms of players often let their defense slide. McCarthy at the helm could bring us to dominance in the AFC East.

    Newsflash Guys..

the last article I read in the NY Post Mac basically admitted his inexperience hiring a HC!

Maccagnan NEEDS McCarthy because he is as clueless as Chris J.

Thats how Bowles pretty much got him to order up scrubs like T Johnson Devin Smith and Sharon Lee ...Mac rolled over for him

All MMacag has to do is keep the Stabucks to his lips and let McCarthy do the talking...or else nod his head in agreement, extend hand and say "we can get your $ Coach..NP"

McCarthy may feel he can manipulate MM and Chris J easier than Dorsey at Cleve since they are both dumb asses and Dorsey a stronger GM

And this is one of the biggest problems with hiring a "newbie" as a HC - he won't have the ability to tell Macc to STFU and get back to his contracts and paperwork.

LOL "paperwork and contracts" (you mean bad contracts of course ..ahahaha)

Its plain as day how this might play out...McCarthy holds the Cards

He has to choose between Fire (Baker Mayfield/Dorsey) and Ice (Mike m/sam Darnold)..2 QBs that are winners but different personalities there and with Mngmt

Other factors: Chris Johnson pays him double what he gets now plus incentive for playoff/SB...coming to NYC ..5th Ave ..St Pattys may appeal to the Family

Both sam and Arron Rogers were Cali QBs if that makes any difference..we shall see

Yeah, what a terrible record being 10-8 in the playoffs and winning a superbowl and getting to 3 conference championship games. Keep that guy away! We don't want one time superbowl winners here! We want 3 superbowls or more or you suck!

Are there any other available coaches with a better track record? You can mention Caldwell or Lewis but none of them had even close to that same success in the playoffs. Caldwell had Peyton Manning and did worse.

If McCarthy even got the Jets 1 single super bowl, he'd be an instant legend here.

I think the main question is does McCarthy get along with John Dorsey? If so, I think he chooses the Browns. If not, I think he chooses the Jets. Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold are close enough that that should not be a big factor. The Browns have a better roster right now, but the Jets can get closer and pass them pretty fast. The Jets have a better location and potentially an easier division once Brady is done. I know he worked with Dorsey in Green Bay. If the relationship was good, I think that is where he chooses.

Define your terms. I think that there is an 80+% chance that Cleveland offers him the job tomorrow. I think there's a 70+% chance that he immediately takes it if it is offered. So, I make it at least 55-45 that he's their coach tomorrow.

The Browns choosing someone other than Greg Williams at this point would be classic Browns. They've finally found someone who can puts Ws up for that franchise, but they're looking to bring someone else in.

If McCarthy chooses Cleveland without even coming here, then the Jets need to at least bring Williams in for an interview. Not saying that I necessarily want him as the HC, but that's a tire that needs to be kicked considering where Cleveland was and where they are now. Kitchens would fit that bill as well.

If what I heard/read earlier this season is correct, it's not a matter that the Packers don't sign a lot of FAs, it's that until this season, they hadn't signed ANY outside FAs. They haven't even re-signed some of their own older veteran FAs who had played very well for them.

EDIT: After I posted this, I saw that they had signed some outside FAs in the past, but it has been a while.

You could be right about McCarthy being pass happy, but remember, they haven't had a topnotch RB in GB in years, maybe decades. They even converted a WR to RB to try to get more production from their rushing attack. Now it could be that they haven't made getting a topnotch RB a priority because McCarthy didn't want one or think one was necessary, but he may have wanted one, but didn't get it, so he relied on Rogers arm.

There may have been more than one poster who would have made that move, but I was definitely one who would have been all in on that move.

Eddie Lacy was serviceable before he hit the twinkies, but was probably short of top-notch.

I'd take Williams as DC. Bounties for Brady.

I agree. They haven't had either a topnotch receiving TE or RB in years. Rodgers has had to be their whole offense. With better and diverse offensive personnel, I think we'd see a better offensive plan from McCarthy.

I don't know if they fulfilled the requirement for the Rooney rule but if they did he has ties to Dorsey and I don't think they let him out of the building. I look at it this way if there IS a coach out there and a team really wants and he is the top candidate on their list, they should blow him away with their offer and if it were me I would not let the guy leave to talk to anyone else---personally I would have gone immediately to Michigan and offered that guy a blank check but our owners would have to scrap Mac and we all know Chris Johnson belies Macs plan is going so well lol

We don't agree often, but I'm totally with you on this. The only exceptions might be if Mike Tomlin and/or John Harbaugh become available.
