Let's all play: Head coach list: Best - Matt Rhule Fun - Kliff Kingsbury Safest - Mike McCarthy Interesting - Todd Monken Fine - Kris Richard Scary - Eric Bieniemy LOL - Jim Caldwell Worst - Adam Gase And it's clear as day they are going to take Jamal's opinions with heart.
Him being first for us reeks of Rooney Rule. But I still like giving him an interview. You have to take the Reid tree seriously.
I think him being first has a lot to do with the chiefs schedule right now. He has a game to prep for next week so this was really the only time he could do it.
Could definitely be that. I also wouldn’t be surprised if they want to walk into an interview with McCarthy with the ability to hand him a contract on the spot.
Could be, we can’t pretend like they don’t know McCarthy at all. I mean they all inter mingle at the owners meetings and other events. I’m sure they have a good idea who they want before the interview process starts
Right, which is why this is all some sweet ass circumstance for Jets brass that they will be able to offer him a deal on the spot. And now learning that he’s visiting Cleveland first, I wouldnt be shocked if we don’t let him out of the building without a contract, which is something I’d never say.
I don't understand the fascination with Gase or Kliff Kingsbury. I don't know why we would want men who have failed as head coaches when we could have Mike McCarthy, one of the most successful coaches in the league right now.
While I retain significant doubts about the Johnsons and Macc being capable of finding the right HC unless he falls in their lap, I will say that Chris at least has the priority correct: whoever it is has to be be able to get the most out of Darnold. And making sure that each candidate meets with Sam to see how their chemistry is is a good idea. Doesn't mean Darnold gets to hire the HC, or that just because Sam loves somebody they need to hire him, but this franchise's success hinges on Darnold becoming the first real FQB since Namath. I'm still hopeful that one of the Harbaughs come here, or if not, then McCarthy, because the chances of them discovering the "next great HC" out of the ranks of first-timers is dismal. But, if they do decide to hire a first-timer, it will likely be somebody with a reputation for offensive creativity, In that case, I hope they're smart enough to also then hire veterans in the OC and DC roles (and keep Boyer in the fold). And of course, no matter who they hire, if Macc doesn't improve his scorecard on player acquisitions, nothing's going to work.
I'm honestly getting a bit confused by all the threads. Can't remember which convo is where. McCarthy probably should have it's own but Kingsbury, this and the coaching search can probably all be one. Basically... I want just one thread where I can keep hitting refresh every minute waiting for news rather than trying to check in four different threads
I think McCarthy wants to go to the browns. And I am not saying this in a soj way. I think he is a mid America type guy and Cleveland fits him and his family better.
I don't disagree at all. On top of the fact that they have a very good QB for the next decade if they want him, plus a solid group of guys around him, plus money to spend. Browns are a much better fit for McCarthy.
I would have to agree as well unfortunately.. He would have to like Sam better than Baker I feel like to come here. I won't be heartbroken as long as we don't get Gase or Caldwell. Kingsbury sure would make for a fun product to watch on Sunday but Monken is probably safer.
I just have a feeling theres something holding him back from Cleveland. Why did he schedule an interview w the jets before Cleveland when hes been out of a job for 2 mos.,while the browns have been w.o a permanent fixture at HC for slightly longer & he has the Dorsey connection. Its gotta be one of 3 things A. He & Dorsey arent on the same page(which has been suggested) B.He doesnt think the situation is as appealing as percieved IE roster/Ownership C.He likes Florham Park more than Cleveland
Yes..but the jets were scheduled first..the browns interview was scheduled later. It was reported that jets were the first team he had scheduled an interview with. Its just funnny to me w all the “dots” connecting him to Cleveland that this isnt already a foregone conclussion.Who knows maybe it already is..but does anybody get that sense?
Oh, I wouldn't put much stock into that. You never know what's going on behind the scenes. The Browns could have reached out long before the Jets and were trying to set up an interview schedule once they got all of their candidates in a row. I also think he'd have to take both interviews before accepting anything unless he's just dead set on Cleveland or NY. That's just smart practice for him. He kinda holds all the cards, he might as well use them.
