This smells like a face saving move from Chris Johnson. Afterall, the new CEO did see fit to extend both and it would be difficult to admit that your first major move just crashed and burned totally. One guy had to go to appease the fanbase and one had to stay as to not look completely inept. Since you really can't fire the GM without firing the HC and Chris couldn't or wouldn't fire the GM, Bowles walked the plank. Fair enough, but if Macc fucks up this upcoming offseason, he has to go. No fckn way he gets another 4 year rebuild. If he does? I'm out..

Welcome to the Fire Mike MacCagnan 2019-2020 thread!

Whatever happens he got us Sam.

Imagine he'd sat tight and allowed the Bills to jump him. They'd probably of pushed the Pats for the division and be looking good for the next decade whilst we'd be in the first year of the Josh Allen experience.

Top 3 pick, plenty of cap space, Franchise QB and some good pieces - Whilst we're not where I'd hope we'd be, I don't think we're too far off if the reight moves are made i.e Get a freaking edge rusher!

Who would you suggest be made responsible for hiring the new Head Coach?

Good question for you, too, Brook and anyone else who wanted MacCagnan fired now.

Who should be responsible for finding a new Head Coach? Using Casserly, et al didn't work; using a consulting firm didn't work.

What process should the Jets use and who should be involved in that process?

Thread should be closed, the man has kept his job ;)

As the GM he really should be choosing the coach so if it shits out then both get the Spanish Archer.

Well, since the Org chart will not change and Macc is staying on until doomsday, I'll let this thread float on its own.

I'm starting to believe that, even with Sam, there may be no hope for this franchise. Christopher Johnson just stated in a press conference that Mike Maccagnan is a great talent evaluator. When pressed as to why he believes that, when Maccagnan's draft record and signings indicate otherwise, Johnson said: " the draft and free agency are hard" you can't make this stuff up. Clueless owners, both brothers, running the team into the ground through their stubbornness and lack of understanding of what it takes to be successful in the sport they operate in.

Nothing will change unless Johnson brothers sell the team to an owner who wants to win and let Pro's do the job.

Things will change when we find a franchise QB and since we just did, it's just a matter of building around him.

Besides, the Johnson's are never selling.

I think every Jet fan knows where the root of the problem lies.. Its The Johnsons. They are stupid trust fund silver spoon babies that don't have a fckn clue how to run a football organization, but refuse to hire full time someone that does. As long as the Johnsons own the Jets, this team will remain in the shitter just like Dolan and the Knicks..

Geez, maybe I'm clueless about this game I've been watching all this time. I've always believed that it's very difficult to put together a team; nobody comes with guarantees. I've been a proponent of getting a football operations guy but that's obviously not happening but the only true test is ahead, not in the rear view mirror.

The American ambassador to the UK Woody Johnson was on Radio 4 this morning, it was a joy to listen to our co-owner chat about Brexit and lick Trump's ass.

Someone ..the new HC whoever that is...must be talented enough to keep winning and gain the trust fund boys favor OVER Macagnan

Only way it can realistically play out dealing with these two autocratic a hole bros is have a guy with enough balls to outsell the GM on how to run the team ...Bowles was a nice guy but not smart enough to pull that off (or anything else on or off the field lol)

Since MM is clueless how to talent evaluate and even relied on Garbage Bowles for advice ...he will ingratiate himself with boy wonder HC or Vet new guy. New guy has to figure out how manipulate loser Mac out the door a la Gruden play with dah Raiders

When you're the GM and you keep a clueless head coach around for 4 years, 3 of them being ridiculously awful, yes, your choice of head coach sucks. Everything else I said was spot on. On top of that, he almost crippled our franchise with Cousins who Bowles was probably in favor of. Everyone needs to go.

    One. More. Time.

MacCagnan did not choose or hire Bowles, Woody Johnson did.

Bowles did not report to MacCagnan, he reported to Woody Johnson then Chris Johnson.

It was not in MacCagnan's power to fire Todd Bowles.

You're barking up the wrong tree, Major Hoople.

If that's the case then MacCagnan is WEAK and not responsible for anything. It explains the horrific decision making of this organization throughout his tenure when you have your head coach bypassing the GM and only reporting to the owner. So maybe MacCagnan really is a great GM, we just don't it because Woody and now Chris make all the decisions.

I find it hard to believe that MacCagnan did not have the power to make recommendations to fire the head coach or anyone on the coaching staff. Plus Bowles never earned any power to go above the GM. Just because Mac did not hire him it doesn't mean he wasn't in control. Why have a GM then? Chris is now Jerry Jones according to you.
