Exactly. The formula for winning in the NFL hasn't changed. 1. Get your quarterback 2. Protect your quarterback 3. Knock down the other teams quarterback With #1 covered, the Jets need to address 2 and 3 and I don't care what order they do it in. Skill positions on offense mean naught if the line can't protect or open holes.
Except a quality skill player is just as effective at helping an OL as vice versa. De emphasizing skill is outdated & not the answer
And who is Darnold supposed to throw to? This is an offensive league. You just saw how easily Gilmore shutdown Robbie who isn’t a true #1. This team will continue to struggle until they can get another receiver. Enunwa is decent but he doesn’t scare defenses.
Not de-emphasizing skill by any means but your skill players will never perform to their full potential until your o-line is solid. That split second longer to get open and be found by the QB, or that extra 6 inches for the RB to squeeze through make a ton of difference.
This is just not even close to being accurate. Go down the list of recent SB winners (by regular season years) and tell me the #1 WR 2017 - Philly 2016 - NE 2015 - Denver 2014 - NE 2013 - Sea 2012 - Balt 2011 - NYG 2010 - GB 2009 - NO 2008 - Pitt 2007 - NYG 2006 - Indy 2005- Pitt 2004 NE 2003 NE 2002 TB 2001 NE 2000- Balt Not a #1 Wr in sight except for Marvin Harrison /Reggie Wayne on Indy.
So sad that the Jets were a handful of plays away from the #1 pick. Cowboys were supposed to rest their dudes, WTF! Cards almost pulled off an upset there.
Yeah, but we can still land a very good player with the 3rd pick. At this point, I believe it'll be Edge or OL.
The Giants had Burress who was a # 1 at the time ( 07 ), Colston for the Saints. Jennings with GB . Demetrius Thomas for Denver . Keep in mind I’m not saying a HOF # 1 WR I’m saying a clear cut # 1 on the particular team . NE never really had one but most of the others did from what I remember ....and the bottom line is until the OL is fixed and the skill players as a whole are improved Darnold is not going to be able to do much of anything.
#3 ain't too bad. we are so desperate for talent the GM really needs to parlay this pick into 3 additional picks. Sitting tight at 3 and taking the BPA will not do much of anything for this club with the current state of the roster. been there done that with adams and williams and look what happens. this is a defense heavy draft - especially on day 1 - so unless you are getting LT or von miller, gotta trade out.
If they could trade to #7 - #10 with while picking up another pick or two that would be ideal I think.
Maybe they think this Allen kid out of Kentucky can be the next Von Miller. If not, I wouldn’t mind trading back and addressing some of the needs later in round 1 and get the 2nd round pick back. This team has so many holes right now and needs talent.
It depends on the player that’s available at 3. If the next Khalil Mack is still there at 3, is that player not worth three players? The need for more quality players can’t simply be said to be greater than the talent of an individual player.
My hope is they follow the Indy path. Trade down to the #6 or so, grab the best OT / Edge and then fill the other needs with the extra picks.
