Well......not sure where the Jets will wind up picking - we’ll know in about 3 hours or so - but on the bright side for the first time in what seems like decades they will not be looking for a franchise QB . Thank God for that because this is NOT the year to be looking for one . # 3 , # 5 , whatever they will get a good player and fill a need .
` If the favorites win (the most likely outcome), the Jets don't move up. If either or both the Cards and 49'ers lose, the Jets would move up. As best I figure, here are the scenarios: If the Cardinals defeat the Seahawks and 49'ers lose to the Rams = The 49'ers get the 1st, Jets 2nd, and Cards 3rd Overall. If the Cardinals defeat the Seahawks and 49'ers beat the Rams = The Jets get the 1st, Cards get the 2nd and 49'ers 3rd Overall. If the Cards lose to the Seahawks and 49'ers win = The Cards get the 1st, Jets 2nd, and 49'ers 3rd Overall. If the Cards and 49'ers lose = Cards get the 1st, 49'ers 2nd, and Jets 3rd.
No. But it’s still a great place to be in this draft. Whining about a minimal difference in a weak draft when we have tons to be up about is some same old Jets fan routine that I’m not going to be a part of.
I don't think there's a realistic difference between 2 and 3 in this draft, but the first pick would have been nice.
Sure, but even with the first overall pick you are taking a chance on someone who missed his entire last year of college football because of an injury. There is no homerun in this draft whatsoever.
Hey, if we're going to be this bad then let's finish the job like a champ! If we're gonna lost 9 games in 10 weeks, why not lose the last one too and get that top pick??? Jets need to learn how to FINISH!
"Tons to be up about"? I see very little to be up about right now. Coaching is a completely blank slate, so there's nothing to be up about until something happens. If GM is staying the same there's little to be up about based on his history; if he's gone then again, until something happens there's nothing to be up about. The team has demonstrated that there is little talent there. Despite the repeated claims by some, they do not have lots of cap room, as only about half the team is even signed for next year (they have some cap room, but not nearly as much as some people seem to think). They might have a franchise QB, but it's way too early to know for sure. And the fact that this is a weak draft is bad news, not good news. I'm not trying to convince you of anything, and I'm happy for you if you can have great optimism about next season, but please spare us the obnoxious criticism about people who don't see it your way.
I don’t see a lot of teams willing to trade up to # 1 this year .....whoever gets the spot is probably looking at Bosa or Quinnen depending on defensive philosophy. AZ with the #1 may see Quinnen as their answer to Aaron Donald who they play twice a year.
Can you at least acknowledge that outside of the first overall pick in this draft is a complete crapshoot? And even the guy that is going to go first is a crapshoot himself? I understand the hesitancy to be optimistic but this just doesn’t seem like an area that warrants a whole lot of complaining.
There’s nothing to update. We can only get a higher pick in the draft with a 49ers win (they won’t) and/or a Cardinals win (they won’t). Spend your time with the bridesmaids instead.
I’m more concerned about who they get for a coach ......they will get a good player in the first round .
How would we feel if Woody & Chris told US the draft was a crapshoot as an excuse for the producton the field? The draft is only a crapshoot if the teams front office is completely clueless. And while it certainly is no sure thing the takent pool, process, research that goes in & draft picks themselves should never be downplayed as glorified lotto tickets. Big boy scouting departments find ways to draft players that fit a winning system.thats no crapshoot.
You’re kind of making my point for me. In this draft where there is no clear-cut homerun, you can find a potential home run anywhere from 1 to 10 it seems.
Everything (draft, free agency, choosing a coach, etc.) involves uncertainty, but that doesn't mean it's totally random. In any event, that has nothing to do with anything I said about whether there's so much cause for optimism, which is the reason you gave to insult anyone who thinks finishing with the #2 pick in each round is better than finishing with the #3 pick in each round (which is blindingly obvious, by the way). And for the record, I don't actually care that much about this - I just object to the insults of people who resort to the laziest of arguments.
Think of it in terms of the draft trade chart pointage. This team should be going everything in their power to trade down to accumulate picks. The difference between picks 2 & 3 isnt just the order of players,it could be the difference of another 3rd or 4th round pick thrown into a trade package.Jets need all the help they can get
The theory only holds weight if there are players that other teams want to trade up for. It’s a little hard to make a call on that one way or the other today, but on the surface it doesn’t look like there’s going to be too much movement at the top of the draft unless someone has a fantastic combine.
