I don’t know. You read a lot of dumb things on the Internet. After all, it’s a reflection of society. This thread is like 10 Leonard Williams Looks Fat threads.
That's due to the really "smart" play calling by the CS. I'm sure there are worse examples in NFL history with other teams' CS handcuffing their team this badly, but in Jets history this is the worst I can remember.
And because Crowell and Powell got hurt, leaving McGuire and Cannon as the RBs. People laud McVay as a genius for instance but replace Gurley with McGuire and let's see how effective his play calls are.
Fair point, but there has been absolutely NO deception in their play calling. EVERYONE watching knows exactly what the play will be. It's ridiculous! Jim Brown couldn't make yardage with this offense.
The coaching sucks but ultimately it's both. But there's a default on this forum to blame the coaching, and IMO TGG is going to be in for a rude awakening next year if we change the coach and nothing else.
Sorry, it's not a "default" argument, it's clear fact based upon outcomes. A decent coach with this team this year would've come close to a .500 record. Thank god Bowles didn't do this because he surely would've been retained and he is never going to be a SB-caliber coach.
So next year we hire a decent coach (hopefully but I don't trust Mac's judgment or decent coaches wanting to work under him) and come close to a .500 record. Our roster and Darnold will be stronger but there's no guarantee we get a decent coach, so those things balance out. Then posters switch from blaming the coaching to blaming Mac, but we can't fire him because we just put him in charge. That's the rude awakening.
I don’t think there’s a rude awakening coming. Based on our cap space and how many people we don’t have under contract, it’s likely that the roster won’t turnover that much. We’ll add a signature player or 2 on both sides of the ball, hopefully field a good draft, and bring in a new CS. If those things happen, and Sam continues to progress, we’ll be competitive next season. It’s a lot of ifs, but so is life as a Jets fan. The real shock would be competing for the division next season.
A lot of us know it’s not just the CS, we have been saying from the time Mac has been GM, fix the oline. Use high draft picks to solidify the oline. Is it any wonder the colts have been able to protect Luck better this year? Their GM used the picks he got from the Jets and selected Quentin Nelson who has turned out to be everything that was expected of him and more and the second round pick to draft a RT who has been good for them as well. It’s not just scheme, it’s players as well, jets need better players. Mac has failed at drafting just as bad as Bowles has failed at being a HC. I love Darnold’s 4runner, man knows about cars, that thing will last him a lifetime. The oline should be embarrassed, they have sucked all year and expect Rolex watches?
IF Jim Harbaugh does come here DO NOT get complacent. DO NOT read your press clippings or start believing the media hype that you're the anointed one Mr. Untouchable. Rest assured that the days of useless, non-threatening backup QBs will be over. The Jets will draft or sign a veteran and that player WILL get coached up by Jim Harbaugh same as you. Any QB on the roster WILL be ready to go if called upon. DO NOT get injured. Jim Harbaugh could be the best thing that will happen to you as a pro, you can be his Brady but you have to do the job and you have to stay healthy. The end.
