Im sorry I like Quincey a lot he is a great guy but he is NOT WORTH 9 million a year the guy cannot stay on the field.
Picture this: Sam Darnold making the 2nd year jump with a new OC, AJ Green/Anderson/Enunwa at WR, Herndon at TE, Bell at RB Now that’s a fucking offense. (Before anyone asks: Green is over 30, hurt, going into the last year of his deal on a team that might look to rebuild. I think he could be had cheap).
Love it. $20 mil guaranteed is right about where he should be. We’re alreadh off to a better start than we were with Sanchez... bringing back Sam’s security blankets rather than letting them walk for players that haven’t played in years or were ready to retire.
A few things. At first glance the money seems a bit high mostly because of his injury history. I think he is a #2 receiver in this league from a talent standpoint so I believe $9mm for one is kind of the asking price these days. I assume there will be more details and Mac will have at least protected the team in case of injury. Secondly, this is a pretty mediocre free agency market for receivers. Golden Tate is probably the best available receiver out there and he will probably cost more than $9 mil and isn’t home grown. He is probably looking for one of his last big payouts so there isn’t much incentive for him to bust his ass after getting that contract. Lastly, the value of continuity with Darnold is really important here. I think back to when we took Sanchez’s receivers away when we got rid of Edwards and Cotchery and replaced them with locker room cancers like Derrick Mason and Burress. That was a big reason we ruined Sanchez and we’d be making the same mistake if we didn’t retain some of Darnolds favorite targets especially this early in his career.
The 3rd best receiver on a team. While that may not be the case with us, that would be the case for many teams in the league.
According to Cimini, this is basically a 3 year, $20 mil deal unless I’m reading his report wrong. If thats true then it’s very fair value.
Enunwa was the best WR on this team when healthy. While that may not be saying much, he'd still be very effective, if not more effective, on a better team.
Not a huge fan of this signing even though I like what he brings to the table. That's an overpayment, the open market would have paid him less in my opinion.
We don’t even know the guarantee payouts, when we can get out, etc. To me it’s a little too early to be talking about overpaying. On the surface, it’s 3/20 and IMO that’s Quincy’s value on the open market. Plus the player is always more valuable to his current team.
The Jets have like a billion dollars in cap space and very little talent on the roster. Letting one of their few building blocks get the chance to sign with another team, especially with so much money to spend, would’ve been awful.
Yes and no. He has definitely flashed at times, but we just signed a guy with career stats of 1600 yards and 5 TDs over 3 years to a ~$9m a year deal.
With Herndon assuming a role similar to what Enunwa played in the past it helps both players, allows the team to use Enunwa in a variety of roles that won’t necessarily lead to injury. As long as they use these two in this way I like the move. Enunwa can go get it like Braylon Edwards, Brandon Marshall and could be a very good possession guy like Crebet when paired with Herndon, Robbie and a pass catching RB. If they mis-use him or use him like the past then yes he could miss a lot of time but I really don’t see that going forward.
Jet fans: WE HAVE NO TALENT ON OFFENSE! Also Jet fans: $9 MILLION FOR A TALENTED WR?!? ARRRRGGGHHHHH.
