Thought I would make this thread to show the importance of one game in the NFL. Lets start with Week 1: If the Titans defeat the Jets, both teams are (6-6) and the Titans are considered a playoff contender at the moment with wins over the Giants and Colts. Week 3 at Buffalo: If the Jets lose, both teams go into Sunday at (6-6) and the winner has a long shot at the playoffs, and the loser is likely out. Week 4 vs. the Colts: If the Jets hold on the final drive the Jets are 1 game out of first in the AFC East at (8-4) and in control of the Wild Card. The Colts are also (9-3) and not in first place in the AFC. Week 6 vs. Miami: if Mare makes the kick and the game goes to OT and the Dolphins win, both teams are currently (6-6) and neither would be getting too much attention from the media about the playoffs. Week 8 at Cleveland: if the Jets get the right call, win in in overtime, they are in control of the wild card and have a shot at the division title. I just thought it would be interesting to do this. It does show you how important one game is in the NFL. Any game of any week can change many things...
Excellant post! Hopefully your post will smarten up others! FB fans have to realize this is not a 162 game BB schedule or a 82 game basketball schedule but a 16 game NFL schedule. Being only 16 games means EVERY game played is most important
Exactly why you can't lay an egg vs. a team like the Browns, or a team like the 2000 Lions or the 2001 Bills or the 2002 Bears etc. etc. etc.
Nice in theory, but as all events affect everything subsequent, who knows - the Jets win in Cleveland, maybe we tank in NE and are out of it already? Nice post, still.
Like this sunday at the Meadowlands. WIN: We sit as one of the favorites to win a Wild Card spot at (8-5), while Denver, K.C., and Jacksonville all have extremely tough matchups at San Diego, Baltimore and Indianapolis resulting in one, to two, and possiblily THREE teams at (7-6). LOOSE: And panitic sets in as we are forced to WIN-OUT! This weekend is a must win and if you have tickets be ready to be loud!
Cool post! I wish I had tickets to this weekends game but at the very least, I have the TV coverage. See, I live in Boston so I don't get to watch every game and listen to a bunch of them on Sirius. I am just happy it will be on up here. This post makes me think if the NFL is really a league with tons of parity. It really shows that any team can beat an other team. But if the schedule was expanded to say 32 games would we really see that parity that everyone talks about? The Royals can beat the Yankees in any given day but when averaged out the Yankees are much better. Is the difference between the NFL and other leagues just the sample size?
I am glad Jets fans can say that right now. Who would of thought? I hope Mangini and the boys pull it off.
great post......and I totally agree, with 5 loses....from this point out every game is huge, 6 loses with all the tiebreaker possibilities could be damaging...I still think 10-6 would get us in, 9-7 I don't think
No way 9-7 gets the Jets into the playoffs, but 10-6 might I agree. Things look good too: 1.Already beat the Bills 2.Beat the Packers who beat the Vikings in Minnesota. (Doesn't matter but still) 3.Beat the Dolphins (2nd time will be tough) 4.Oakland is a pretty bad team. Gotta like your chances. But as my post said, One game could of changed the Jets' entire situation.
Great post NYJ2K06. It's really true how ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN ON ANY GIVEN SUNDAY. Sundays game against Buffalo should be a great game. It is a big game too. This game can truly determine the playoff hopes for the Jets. Let's hope Mangini has the team prepared, but also treats this game as a "1 game at a time" game. I'm sure he's mentioned the "P" word to the team, but I hope they don't get too ahead of themselves.
I agree man. Speaking of 1 game meaning alot, this game is no exception. 7-6 and 8-5 look and are very different records. 8-5 with the Vikings,Dolphins,and Raiders left on the schedule would look great.
Nice post, but I think we all agree with ScotsJet in that it is impossible to tell where we would be having suffered an opening day loss to the Titans. Given the volatility of Manginis position at that point a loss to start the season would have been really bad. One thing seems apparent to me at this point--our team believes in Mangini and his system, and he has certainly earned it.
Now champ, I am not trying to pee in your cornflakes, but you have always stated you can never learn anything from a loss.:up:
