Anyone have a link for this story? I was just at the gym and they had ESPN on. I think the reporter is named Josina Anderson. She said a source said Bates admitted he couldn't get through to Darnold, so he has been using McCown to get the message across better? It was hard to hear. I checked Twitter and didn't see a story. If that is true, it is the final nail in the coffin for this administration. I am sure Bowles and staff will be fired Monday, but this confirms it to me. Bowles can't blame Bates either. He hired him. He is his responsibility.
Haven’t heard anything about it but we need to get someone who can help develop this kid. Bates will be gone next week or as soon as the new coach comes in. As long as the new coach is the best or one of the best people to develop Darnold then that’s all that matters.
A few people on Twitter have said they saw Anderson on TV saying this. Just get this guy outta here. All the more reason we need to transition McCown into the QB coach role at the very least.
I like how Bowles fired an OC who actually did something with less talent last year for a guy even worse. Because Toilet wanted more ground and pound lol How the hell does Bates not get along with Darnold who's a choir boy and the nicest polite and hardest working kid you can possibly have. Bowles hired the worst garbage staff outside of Boyer
Yeah, that seemed like big news to me when I heard it too, but I guess no one cares now since the end is near....
He didn't say he didn't get along with him...He said he couldn't get through to him. This sounds like a fault in his coaching ability, not a personality clash.
Sam Darnold feels like the last person on the face of the planet that would have a personal conflict with a coach. Sounds weird. Also, next staff needs to have McCown as QB coach.
Get the fuck back to the Appalachian Trail or whatever the fuck hippy thing you did for 4 years and get away from my franchise QB.
Yep. Though I'd like to sign a good veteran QB as well to be in uniform should the unthinkable happen to Sam Tyrod Taylor maybe?
Yeah, seemed odd to just randomly say that on tv and then not mention it online. Could just be finger pointing and making excuses since everyone in the building knows Bates and Bowles are out.
I’m not into calling people out on this, but Josina Anderson is very adamant about defending a certain type of head coach. Just scroll through her Twitter for a bit and it’ll be obvious. Probably just trying to deflect a little blame off Bowles.
You are most definitely not incorrect in your assertion about Anderson. I had to unfollow her back when she just became a personal mouthpiece for Brandon Marshall but what you’re talking about also was a big reason why I just stopped reading anything she had to say.
If you look at Bates resume, he has never stuck around much anywhere Filled with 1 and 2 year stints I think we know who the problem is here
Bates won't (I hope) be employed by the franchise less than a week from now. The only relationship that I particularly care about at this point is Darnold's relationship with whoever the next OC is. I'm not at all surprised if he does have a suspect relationship with a terrible OC like Bates, if this is indeed true.
