This is common practice in the corporate world which is where the Johnsons thrive. If people think this isn’t the norm, don’t know what to tell them. I think this is more damage control for the team not following the Rooney rule.
There’s two components — the Jets pursuing him and Jim accepting the offer. The fans want to see the Jets pursue him and that is the discussion; whether he accepts an offer is separate. We want to see ownership care enough about success that they at least try to get a great coach.
Because Bowles is still the coach of the Jets. Was he suppose to say it's true? Lol c'mon...not sure if there is tampering involved but they had to nip it in the bud, even if it's true (and it is, someone leaked it). Btw this is done all over the league, so let's not act like Chris went rogue here...this happens ALL the time.
He wasn’t supposed to say it was true He could’ve just not said anything That was definitely an option here... probably the easiest one too.
I am now imagining the Jets running at Jim and him running in the opposite direction as fast as his khakis will allow.
to be fair if he said nothing the press would just run with "Jet's ownership refused to deny speculation that they had approached Jim Harbaugh" or "Jet's ownership's silence speaks volumes..." etc.
I love how any of you think there's a chance in Hell that this happens, it's just click bait garbage, this team isn't getting anyone decent as a HC, it will be a first timer again, hopefully we hire some brilliant NFL executives to help out
The funny part about the Jets releasing that statement or tweet, is that they did it trying to not look bad. As if looking or pursuing a new Head Coach while currently having one in Todd Bowles was making them look bad. It was actually the opposite: Fans were happy to hear the Jets were actually trying to improve and get better. So now next week when they fire Bowles, that statement will look dumb. If they end up hiring Harbaugh: the statement looks pathetic. This is great! Go Jets!
Say you're a 12 year old boy with a crush on a pretty girl. Everyone can see you're attracted to her, and finally someone says "Ooh TDK, do you like her?" And because you don't want to embarrass yourself and therefore ruin your chances with her you say "No way!" Is that a good idea? Of course not, but to a 12 year old it is. That's what the Johnsons are. 12 year olds.
Sorry.."love and respect him " really?? The Johnsons should have a Help Wanted sign out for the HC job with the subtitle "we love and respect you more when you screw up every weekend" Yes Bowles is a great human being but cmon now this is also a business..or did Woody purchase a $640 million Hess truck for sh/ts and giggles??????? And therein lies the problem
Haha yeah, good point! I would just say nothing, but that was clearly too difficult for the Jets to do.
He is a joke. Given that roster and resources, he’s under achieved. Dude looks like a wanna be gangster on the sidelines, certainly not a mastermind type we need to lead this roster
We can give Vance Joseph a token interview if need be, but the Jets should be very low on the list of teams of any ‘Rooney Rule violations’ after having endured Bowles this long, and even further back with Herm. They have nobody to answer to when it comes to giving minorities opportunities The Raiders avoided it when courting Gruden I believe.
