Gholston sucked, but the Gholston days were way more fun than these days. We were a winning team back then.
You're flat fucking wrong. It wasn't hindsight, and your reasoning isn't for shit. It wasn't a massive reach by Reid. That's fucking laughable. Reid recognized his talent. He didn't need him, he already had a good QB who was playing at a high level. It's not hindsight or second guessing, I don't give a shit what you fucking bozos think.
Exactly. Passing on Mahomes and Watson would be a terrible move and perhaps even fireable, BUT Mac chose Adams who is a clear star and leader of the defense, and Sam Darnold, who has potential to be one of the best QB's in the NFL. You can put down Mac for many other things, but Mahomes should not be one of them.
Welcome to the club, he is your best pal when you agree with him but hell don't even go down the Mahomes route. I got the "this is my last post to you" post the other week along with the "your to dense" comments and not once like yourself did I say Mahomes wasn't a good player, he isn't our player and fucking get over it, it is as bad as the fuckers still crying about Marino over a century later, blub blub blub. If Sam becomes our FQB for 10+ years then only 3-5 people will still be unhappy that we didn't pick Mahomes in 2017 and that will be on them to deal with, hopefully I will enjoy some good QB play from one wearing green & white not fucking red & white. Maybe they could head over here for mutual reach arounds https://www.chiefsplanet.com/
Those picks are not enough to justify his staying on as GM. Wayy too many misses in different parts of all his drafts has this roster at a bottom 10 talent level league-wide.
I can get on board with this but that is the only way I'd want Mac retained. I also think he should only handle contracts/cap and not be involved in personnel decisions.
NC, You know how much I value you as a poster. So please don't take this wrong. But above 2 posts that were reported many times by different posters are disturbing and not acceptable by forum standards. I kindly ask you to not personalize things and use ignore future for folks you think are bozos and are in over their head. Normally I prefer private messages to discuss moderator issues but in this case there were multiple reports so I had to engage with you openly so everybody who reported could see the conversation.
I see the 20-20 hindsight second quessing continues by some who likely never saw Mahomes play in college yet can give a detailed pre-draft analysis of him as well as detailed analyses of players we SHOULD have taken with all those picks we gave up for Darnold, players likely never had seen play or had no idea who they are but looking back NOW would have fixed every single hole on the team. Just a gut feeling. Again, not defending Mac but this is just revisionist drafting.
That part is true. Anyone following the draft knows that Trubisky was the hot prospect in 2017. Many had him and Watson ranked ahead of Mahomes. On the other side, Darnold was the CLEAR #1 choice for most people in the 2018 draft, and I believe he would have been the #1 choice if Trubisky, Watson, and Mahomes came out in 2018 instead. Of course, the Browns ended up taking Baker #1, but that was unexpected. Now Andy Reid has made Mahomes a top QB, but that was not the case at the time. Many experts and fans were not sure if any of the 2017 QB's would be good or worth 1st Round picks.
The 2017 class was not looked at as a strong class for QBs and no where near the 2018 class. Even Trubisky was not looked at as a sure thing and the rest had major questions. Mahomes coming from that spread offense at Texas Tech was being looked with lots of quesitons as to what would translate to the NFL. Incredible arm talent and athletic but extremely raw--the ultimate high reward/high risk gamble. Certainly no sure thing and needed to go to the right coach with the right system. KC and Reid were the perfect match. But passing on him by a bunch of other teams was not a mistake AT THE TIME. It's easy to look back now and say "holy shit, how did we pass on that guy?!? Oh, and look at all the picks we needed to give up to get Sam, if we had just taken Mahomes then used those picks to expertly fix all our other holes--CHAMPIONSHIP!"
And BTW, complaining that “if there’s a potential FQB sitting there, you HAVE to take him” is faulty reasoning if you don’t believe the QBs available are actually FQBs. Because it looks like Mahomes is a FQB now does not mean THEN he was looked at as such. By a bunch of teams. The QBs are pretty mediocre this year but when a QB needy team is sitting there in the top 10 picks, should they pick a QB just because he’s a “potential FQB”? Would it be a mistake to pass on a mediocre QB prospect because you need a QB? Kind of hoping the Giants do but it’s asinine.
For kicks, go and read some of those pre draft analysis . There were a small handful of people who were very high on Mahomes, but there were others who wanted no part of him. Now they claim they we're 100% behind him .
Doesn't change the fact that he turned that team around the minute he arrived from 5-11 to 10-6 and then 11-5 and then 13-3. A big-time football coach. Their decline started in his last 2 years in large part because he was dealing with major health issues as well as losing Palmer and David Johnson to season ending injuries in 2017. Any team would've suffered similarly under those circumstances. Even dealing with all of that, he still led them to an 8-8 record last year. My point remains, they are downright awful the year he left.
Isn't that the same thing that happened with Ken Whisenhunt there. Took a Cardinals team that hadn't had a winning season in 9 consecutive years to the Super Bowl, then the divisional round vs the Saints, then injuries to Warner sent the team downhill. He's a great coach, but without the right personal you can't do anything. He left the Cardinals in a decline, with no QB on the roster.
No it's not even close to the same thing. Whisenhunt had Kurt Warner, HOF'er and SB winning QB. Arians had Carson Palmer, a very good QB but most likely never a HOF'er. Arians gave Palmer's career new life. Whisenhunt rode the coattails of Warner's resurgence and anyone who watched Warner during those years knows that. Also Whisenhunt never led them to an 11-5 and 13-3 record like Arians did. Also how did Whisenhunt do in his second stint as a HC in Tennessee? He failed miserably and didn't even last 2 seasons before getting canned. Nice try though.
Of course it's the same thing. Both succeeded immediately with talented players, both failed their last couple of years. Whisenhunt had 4 playoff wins and a Super Bowl appearance, Arians one playoff win. Again, this is about the Cardinals current decline, it isn't due to Arians departure, it began in 2016 while he was still there. But Whiesnhunt is doing pretty good as OC for the Chargers.
